Earl Spencer<\/a>, has made the shocking allegations in his memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which he said he decided to write to correct \u201cuntruths\u201d about his late sibling.<\/p>\nRecalling arranging Diana\u2019s funeral after her passing, the Earl said that he had been opposed to the now King\u2019s decision that his and Diana\u2019s sons Prince William and Prince Harry, aged 15 and 12 at the time, would walk in the funeral procession. <\/p>\n
The Earl claims he told Charles, then the Prince of Wales, that Diana wouldn\u2019t have wanted her sons to go through something so traumatic, so publicly. <\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Charles then called the Earl, he claimed, and told him that he wanted his sons to participate in the procession, and cited his walking in the funeral procession of Lord Mountbatten 18 years earlier as an example of what he wanted his sons to follow. <\/p>\n
\nHowever, when the Earl pointed out to Charles that he had been 30 at the time of Lord Mountbatten\u2019s death, he said the now king \u201cwent nuts\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nThe Earl writes in Swan Song: \u201cPrince Charles continued his stream of anger, without me interrupting. Then he stopped.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI assumed the pause signalled an effort to bring himself under control, but then he unleashed\u00a0down the phone what I have always taken to be his pent-up contempt for Diana, and his horror that the world was so bowled over by her death.<\/p>\n
\n\u201c\u2018Rest assured,\u2019 he hissed, \u2018we\u2019ll forget her soon enough!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe Earl was \u201cso stunned\u201d by Charles\u2019 alleged remarks, he wrote, that he took a few seconds before replying: \u201cI can\u2019t believe you just said that\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nThe Earl ended up walking in the funeral procession alongside William and Harry, as well as Prince Charles and Prince Philip, behind Diana\u2019s coffin as it was carried through London. <\/p>\n
\nAt the funeral itself in Westminster Abbey, the Earl delivered a defiant speech that has frequently been named one of the greatest speeches of the 20th Century. <\/p>\n
\nThe shocking claims from the Earl are sure to continue as Swan Song is serialised by the Daily Mail newspaper ahead of its UK publication next Tuesday (22.09.26). <\/p>\n
\nKing Charles has yet to respond to the Earl\u2019s allegations.<\/p>\n
