Sarah Paulson<\/strong><\/a> and Cody Fern<\/strong><\/a> are together again for a new movie!<\/p>\n

The American Horror Story<\/strong><\/a><\/em> co-stars attended the world premiere of their new movie Closing Night<\/em> during the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival<\/strong><\/a><\/em> on Saturday (September 12) in Toronto, Canada.<\/p>\n

Sarah<\/strong>, who stars in the film, posed alongside Cody<\/strong> as he celebrated both his screenwriting work and feature directorial debut. They were joined at the premiere by co-stars Naomi Watts<\/strong><\/a> and Dianne Wiest<\/strong><\/a>, among others. Sarah<\/strong> also had a reunion with Naomi<\/strong>, who she stars with on another Ryan Murphy<\/strong><\/a> project, All\u2019s Fair<\/em>, on Hulu. Season 2 is in the works!<\/p>\n

Cody Fern wrote Sarah Paulson\u2019s role specifically for her<\/h3>\n

Sarah <\/strong>and Cody <\/strong>previously worked together on the eighth season of American Horror Story<\/em>, titled Apocalypse<\/em>. Their experience on the show would go on to inspire Cody<\/strong> to envision an entirely different role for his former co-star.<\/p>\n

\u201cSarah <\/strong>is one of the great loves of my life,\u201d Cody <\/strong>revealed to The Wrap<\/a>. \u201cFrom the very first moment, it was the zenith. It was clear I had to do everything in my power to work with this woman again.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In Closing Night<\/em>, Sarah <\/strong>plays Sandra Vale, a hardened movie star preparing for the opening night of her Broadway play. The occasion brings her back into contact with the complicated family she left behind, including an estranged sister played by Naomi<\/strong>, per the TIFF description<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to IndieWire<\/a>, Sarah <\/strong>actually made the request to cast Naomi <\/strong>after their time together on All\u2019s Fair<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Cody <\/strong>wrote the role of Sandra specifically with Sarah<\/strong> in mind. However, she initially struggled to believe that he wanted her for the project, jokingly questioning whether he might have intended the screenplay for Cate Blanchett<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t believe he had written it, quite frankly, because I didn\u2019t know this part of Cody<\/strong>\u2018s brain,\u201d Sarah<\/strong> told the outlet while discussing her reaction to the script. \u201cI only knew this part, and his acting self, so I just was just blown away by it. And I couldn\u2019t believe he wanted to make the movie with me, because I thought, \u2018If you get somebody else, you probably get more money for your movie, so maybe you should think about that.\u2019 But he, for whatever reason, decided it was me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Cody<\/strong> had no reservations about casting her, explaining that their work together on AHS<\/em> had been a professional high point for him and made him eager to work with her again.<\/p>\n

Sarah and Naomi brought contrasting looks to the TIFF carpet<\/h3>\n

Sarah<\/strong> wore the white Billie dress from Danielle Frankel<\/em>\u2018s Collection XI. She completed the look with black-and-white Giuseppe Zanotti<\/em> Lumiere mules. <\/p>\n

Naomi<\/strong> went with a Willy Chavarria<\/em> Spring\/Summer 2027 runway look featuring a sleeveless black top and a dramatic knotted detail. She accessorized with Hearts on Fire<\/em> jewelry and ArdAzAei<\/em> satin slingback shoes. <\/p>\n

Tanya Lapointe<\/strong>, Nancy Grant<\/strong>, Louis Mommeja<\/strong>, Patrick Desrosiers<\/strong>, Will Howarts<\/strong>, Devon Bostick<\/strong>, and Lucy Fry<\/strong> were also photographed at the TIFF premiere.<\/p>\n

Devon<\/strong> co-wrote the script with Cody<\/strong>. The cast also includes Odessa A\u2019zion<\/strong><\/a> and Toby Wallace<\/strong><\/a>, though they did not appear to be at the TIFF premiere.<\/p>\n

Closing Night<\/em> marks Cody<\/strong>\u2019s first time directing a feature after building his career as an actor through projects including American Horror Story<\/em>, American Crime Story<\/em>, and, more recently, Foundation<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Closing Night<\/em> does not yet have a confirmed US release date.<\/p>\n
