Plans to put Dolly Parton<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s name on Nashville International Airport have cleared an early hurdle.<\/p>\n

On Friday (September 11), the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority voted 6\u20130<\/strong> to begin the renaming process in the country legend\u2019s honor, according to its latest statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are still decisions ahead before travelers will know exactly what the tribute will look like.<\/p>\n

Is Nashville airport named after Dolly Parton now?<\/h3>\n

Not yet. The authority said \u201ca final name has not yet been determined\u201d in its September 11 announcement.<\/p>\n

Fans have advocated for \u201cDolly Parton International Airport\u201d through an online petition<\/a>, but officials have not announced that wording as the airport\u2019s new name.<\/p>\n

When will the airport\u2019s name change?<\/h3>\n

A date has not been announced. The authority expects to share more concrete plans for carrying out the change in the coming months. Discussions will address how to include Dolly<\/strong>\u2019s name and recognize her legacy.<\/p>\n

How did the Dolly Parton airport tribute begin?<\/h3>\n

Friday\u2019s vote follows the August 28 announcement<\/a> from Tennessee Governor Bill Lee<\/strong> and the airport, also known as BNA, that they wanted to rename it for Dolly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The governor\u2019s office said he had discussed the idea with her team, who welcomed the support and were willing to continue talking about the proposal.<\/p>\n

Dolly<\/strong> died on August 25 at age 80<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fans have been campaigning for the tribute since 2025<\/h3>\n

The push from fans began well before the governor\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n

Fans launched their Change.org petition<\/a> on January 21, 2025, asking for the airport to carry Dolly<\/strong>\u2019s name in recognition of both her entertainment career and charitable work.<\/p>\n

As of September 11, the page listed 175,433 supporters<\/strong> and had been marked as a victory.<\/p>\n
