Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a> doubled down on his claim that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) \u201cthreatened\u201d his show over an interview<\/a> with a Democratic Senate candidate, while the White House accused the talk show host of \u201cplay-acting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Kimmel, 58, announced that his interview with Texas Senate candidate James Talarico<\/strong>, scheduled for Thursday, September 10, wouldn\u2019t air on ABC but rather on the Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em><\/a> YouTube channel. He alleged that the \u201cFCC has threatened me, threatened our show, threatened our network, ABC, our affiliates, our local stations, based on simple traditional editorial decisions, guest bookings, it would seem they don\u2019t like.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his monologue<\/a> on Thursday, Kimmel reiterated those claims, telling his audience, \u201cThis interview will not be televised because of threats from the FCC led by [chairman Brendan Carr<\/strong>], who says we do not have the right to interview whichever candidates we want to interview,\u201d seemingly referring to the FCC\u2019s equal-time rule that requires broadcasters to offer equal time to competing political candidates, with some exceptions, including news broadcasts. (Talk shows like Kimmel\u2019s had long worked under the assumption that they were exempt under that exception until the FCC advised otherwise in January.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is yet another attack on free speech, something that has become all too familiar for us at the show, for us in the country,\u201d Kimmel said Thursday.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Thursday, the White House responded to Kimmel\u2019s claims that he was \u201cthreatened\u201d by the President Donald Trump<\/strong> administration-led FCC. (Us<\/em> reached out to the FCC for comment on Thursday.)<\/p>\n

\u201cJimmy Kimmel is play-acting \u2014 as he often does \u2014 to create a false narrative about this administration\u2019s policies,\u201d White House spokesperson\u00a0Davis Ingle<\/strong> said in a statement, per MS NOW<\/a>. \u201cChairman Carr has not threatened him regarding interviewing James Talarico or any other candidate. Any media outlet blindly amplifying Kimmel\u2019s egocentric delusion should insist on proof. Of which they will find none.\u201d<\/p>\n
