The 49-year-old country music star released the track on Thursday (September 10), reflecting on years of touring, the legendary musicians he\u2019s shared the stage with, and one of the darkest moments he\u2019s experienced on the road.<\/p>\n

What Is Eric Church\u2019s \u201cOn The Road\u201d About?<\/h3>\n

Eric<\/strong> wrote \u201cOn The Road\u201d himself, with longtime collaborator Jay Joyce<\/strong> producing the track.<\/p>\n

Throughout the song, he recalls performing for 50,000 fans beneath the Northern Lights, playing Colorado\u2019s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre and sharing the stage with country legends like Kris Kristofferson<\/strong>, Willie Nelson <\/strong>and George Strait<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The song also includes an emotional reference to the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas. Eric<\/strong> had performed at the festival two nights before the mass shooting, which ultimately claimed 60 lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen the devil stop a show in Vegas \/ I\u2019ve seen those angels get their forever wings,\u201d Eric<\/strong> sings on the new track.<\/p>\n

The country star explained that the song was inspired by the people and experiences that have stayed with him throughout his years of touring.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something about a life on the road where the miles start to blur together, yet the people and the moments never do,\u201d Eric<\/strong> said in a statement. \u201cThose are the things you carry with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou realize how much of who you are was shaped somewhere between one town and the next, and maybe that\u2019s why you never really stop wondering what\u2019s waiting down the road,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
