Kristin Davis<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 role as Charlotte York on Sex and the City<\/em><\/a> cemented her as a Hollywood star \u2014 but it wasn\u2019t always easy for her to connect with the character.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have very different lifestyles. I\u2019m not married. I have never been married,\u201d Davis, 58, said during the Monday, July 10, episode of the \u201cBest Friend Energy<\/a>\u201d podcast. \u201cIt\u2019s not my thing. I was never focused on it. It was never a goal, let\u2019s say.\u201d<\/p>\n Although Davis feels that the \u201creal essence\u201d of her personality<\/a> is \u201cthe same\u201d as Charlotte, she confessed that it \u201ctook some acting\u201d to seamlessly portray a married woman and hopeless romantic on screen. (Single mom Davis adopted her daughter, Gemma, and son, Wilson<\/a>, in 2011 and 2018, respectively.)<\/p>\n \u201cI would stress out on those days,\u201d Davis \u2014 who played Charlotte on SATC<\/em> from 1998 to 2004 before reprising the role for And Just Like That<\/em><\/a> in 2021 \u2014 recalled. \u201cI would have a paragraph on a page of [the script with] the rules and the marriage [lingo]. And oh, my God<\/a>, I would just be like, \u2018How am I going to do this and make it real and believable?’\u201d<\/p>\n The actress<\/a> noted that her upbringing in the South helped her connect with Charlotte\u2019s desire to be a wife above all else. Still, \u201cit definitely took some work in the beginning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n During season 3, Charlotte married Trey MacDougal (Kyle MacLachlan<\/strong><\/a>) but the pair later divorced. Charlotte moved on with her divorce lawyer, Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler<\/strong><\/a>), whom she wed during season 6. Charlotte and Harry share two kids.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew people like that. I knew it was real<\/a>. Charlotte was didactic. She was 100 percent devoted,\u201d Davis told listeners. \u201cI wanted you to see the need that was underneath that. I loved where it went.\u201d<\/p>\n She described Charlotte\u2019s first husband as \u201cnot perfect\u201d despite his social status and net worth but gushed over \u201cwonderful Harry<\/a>,\u201d her character\u2019s true match.<\/p>\n While Davis struggled to perfect Charlotte\u2019s passion for the stereotypical happy ending, she revealed that she did \u201clove\u201d the character\u2019s first wedding.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not really a wedding girl but, you know, Charlotte loved it, so I loved it,\u201d she said. \u201cI remember the experience of shooting the wedding. I must have tried on 35 Vera Wang dresses.\u201d<\/p>\n Charlotte\u2019s final choice of the tulle and lace-adorned gown<\/a>, however, didn\u2019t align with Davis\u2019 personal style. \u201cThe poof one won and it was just, like, such a weird thing because it\u2019s not my thing at all,\u201d she admitted. \u201cI would never wear that dress if I did get married. I would not be wearing that veil.
