Real Housewives of New York City<\/strong><\/a><\/em> newbie Hailey Glassman<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about her past romance with Jon Gosselin<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you didn’t know, 39-year-old publicist and entrepreneur previously dated<\/a> the 49-year-old Jon & Kate Plus 8<\/em> star back in 2009.<\/p>\n

During the season 16 premiere of RHONY<\/em>, which aired on Tuesday (September 8), Hailey <\/strong>spoke about her relationship with Jon<\/strong> and shared how it affected her relationship with her mother.<\/p>\n

While speaking with co-star Erin Lichy<\/strong><\/a>, Hailey<\/strong> revealed that her mother is the reason why she dated Jon<\/strong>. After telling Erin<\/strong> that she is close to her mom, Hailey <\/strong>noted that her mother is “very eccentric,” and she often felt responsible for her emotions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love my mom so very much, but I\u2019ve always wanted to appease her,\u201d Hailey <\/strong>shared. \u201cLike I was in charge of her well-being and her happiness, and I always had a lot of guilt if she was sad and depressed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll give you an example: the reason I dated Jon is because he was my mom\u2019s friend, and she was like, \u2018Oh, he\u2019s a great guy,\u2019\u201d she explained, noting that her mother really wanted her to date Jon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hailey<\/strong> and Jon<\/strong> started dating shortly after his highly-publicized split from Kate Gosselin<\/strong><\/a>, with whom he shares twins Mady<\/strong> and Cara<\/strong>, now 25, and sextuplets Alexis<\/strong>, Hannah<\/strong>, Collin<\/strong>, Aaden<\/strong>, Leah<\/strong> and Joel<\/strong>, now 22.<\/p>\n

The pair were first introduced when Hailey<\/strong>‘s father performed a tummy tuck on Kate<\/strong>, now 51, and began dating after Jon<\/strong> temporarily moved into Hailey<\/strong>‘s parents’ New York City home in May 2009.<\/p>\n

Shortly after it was revealed that Jon<\/strong> and Hailey<\/strong> were dating, tabloids went wild and accused her of breaking up Jon<\/strong> and Kate<\/strong>‘s marriage.<\/p>\n

“There was a show, Jon & Kate Plus Eight<\/em>, and what the tabloids put out there is, I\u2019m the girl who ruined that marriage,\u201d Hailey<\/strong> said. \u201cMistress Hailey. Home-wrecking Hailey, The Mistress That Ruined a Family of 8. It wasn\u2019t even true.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, Hailey<\/strong> did an interview with E! News<\/em> where she insisted that her relationship with Jon<\/strong> began “months” after he separated from Kate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not some fame wh-re,\u201d she said at the time, per TV Guide<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI\u2019m just a 22-year-old girl who got caught in the middle of all this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hailey <\/strong>told Erin<\/strong> that after she and Jon<\/strong> broke up, her relationship with her mother became strained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the Jon thing, I wasn\u2019t getting support from my mom, who, like, disappeared, so I kind of became a lone wolf,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s this friction that all mother-daughters have.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ahead of her RHONY<\/em> debut, Hailey<\/strong> told Bravo Insider<\/a><\/em> that she decided pursue a career in public relations after her own experience in the headlines.<\/p>\n

\u201cI fell into P.R. by being in the tabloids at a young age,\u201d she said. \u201cI needed crisis management, so I got into P.R. to help people who couldn\u2019t defend themselves and didn\u2019t have a voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

New episodes of RHONY<\/em> season 16 air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo and stream the next day on Peacock.<\/p>\n
