I was so excited,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Being on a jury is a grueling business, and the obligations of being even a prospective juror begin even before the trial. If there is reasonable doubt, acquittal is usually the verdict.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson described how the defense laid out a solid argument, using a series of witnesses to portray Clancy as a loving mother who had suffered a psychotic episode.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything proved she loved her children, from her journals to her mother-in-law, everything proved that she loved her children,\u201d the foreperson summarized.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson reasoned: \u201cSo she had to have snapped and not known what she was doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:t4x2ruk2qmob2b2cx55h4v7r\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3muzvxqz5jc2z\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreicyea654vyam3ydusxhab5lm6k7ta2psczail32paou44ns37noge\" data-bluesky-embed-color-mode=\"dark\">\n<p lang=\"en\">Fascinating. Three jurors on the Lindsay Clancy case spoke with NBC Boston. According to the jurors, 11 jury members wanted to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity. The holdout juror \u201cadmitted he had reasonable doubt\u201d and then said \u201cbut I\u2019m still not going to say she\u2019s not guilty\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:t4x2ruk2qmob2b2cx55h4v7r\/post\/3muzvxqz5jc2z?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[image or embed]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Anna Bower (<a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:t4x2ruk2qmob2b2cx55h4v7r?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@annabower.bsky.social<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/bsky.app\/profile\/did:plc:t4x2ruk2qmob2b2cx55h4v7r\/post\/3muzvxqz5jc2z?ref_src=embed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">September 8, 2026 at 4:57 PM<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-he-just-completely-disregarded-the-information\">\u2018He just completely disregarded the information\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>During the interviews, one former juror spoke at length about the evidence from the Lindsay Clancy trial.<\/p>\n<p>This is where the rogue juror earned the description of \u201carrogant,\u201d for seemingly refusing to listen to the evidence presented at trial.<\/p>\n<p>At one point, the lone holdout asked about medication, at which point jurors in the room \u2014 some of whom had expertise in the matter, which they of course disclosed during the voir dire process \u2014 answered his question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he just completely disregarded the information that he gave,\u201d the former juror described.<\/p>\n<p>That sounds worrisome. Even though the idea of that really sucks.<\/p>\n<p>Many of us can imagine being on a jury where a guilty party is about to go free, and we are the lone holdout. \u201cThe demon,\u201d a nickname that OJ Simpson\u2019s defense gave to one juror during his famous murder trial, was apparently one such party \u2014 until she surrendered for reasons unknown, voting to acquit.<\/p>\n<p>But the Clancy trial is a case of postpartum psychosis, a known and fortunately rare situation in which a parent who has given birth in recent months has their protective instincts reversed, killing one or more children \u2014 sometimes with the belief that this is the only means of \u201csaving\u201d the children.<\/p>\n<p>It is not rational and it does not make sense, because the person is in a psychotic state from which they can recover, never again becoming a danger to anyone. <\/p>\n<p>It is unclear how someone could review the evidence and believe that Clancy belongs in prison.
