The 55-year-old TV star has returned to hosting Live with Mark Consuelos, her husband, after recently undergoing gum surgery, and Kelly has now opened up about her health issues.<\/p>\n
Speaking to People, Kelly shared: “[I\u2019m] so much better. <\/p>\n
“It was fine. It was definitely necessary. I delayed it for five years. I really did because I was like, \u2018I\u2019ll wait until I retire.\u2019 And then, eventually my dentist was like, \u2018Okay, now we have to finish it.\u2019”<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Kelly took time off work during her recovery from surgery, and she admits that it was “a little strange” to have stitches in her mouth.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I was talking the whole time. I was talking like crazy. [Mark] was like, \u2018You\u2019re not supposed to be talking.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m fine!\u2019 It did look weird, though, when I talked.<\/p>\n
\n“What was funny, a few of my producers said, \u2018You just need to take the cotton out, take the cotton out from under your lower lip.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018There is no cotton. That is just swelling. That\u2019s why I\u2019m not at work today.\u2019”<\/p>\n
\nKelly’s gum issues were caused by “over brushing” and “over flossing” – but the TV star’s recovery is now almost complete.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I\u2019m getting better. I\u2019m retraining myself. <\/p>\n
\n“I host a morning show. I know when there\u2019s bad dental hygiene involved. It\u2019s a good-bad habit, or a bad-good habit.”<\/p>\n
\nMark spoke about Kelly’s surgery during her absence from the show.<\/p>\n
\nThe TV star explained on Live: “There\u2019s a list of things you are not allowed to do. [No] talking, she has to eat soft food, can\u2019t suck out of a straw. You can\u2019t examine it, which means pulling down the lip. <\/p>\n
\n“Last night, she was like, \u2018Can you look?\u2019 And I\u2019m like, \u2018I\u2019m not pulling your lip down.'”<\/p>\n
\nGum graft surgery treats thinning gums or gum recession, and reduces the risk of severe gum disease.<\/p>\n
\nMark explained: “Her dentist said five years ago, \u2018You could do it in about five years.\u2019 And she said, \u2018I didn\u2019t know I would still be on the air in five years’. But the one thing about it \u2014 she is doing well, doing great \u2014 she is not allowed to talk.”<\/p>\n
