While the amount of boiling salt water I\u2019ve spilled when pouring liquid from my pan into a jar may suggest otherwise, my pickling intentions have always been edible. So why have I baptized numerous countertops in scalding vinegar? The answer is simple: Most saucepans stink when it comes to pouring.<\/p>\n<p>Saucepans\u2014the high-walled, single-handled pots that are <a href=\"https:\/\/misen.com\/blogs\/news\/what-is-a-saucepan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">designed<\/a> to quickly heat small amounts of liquid\u2014tend to dribble, spill, and dump down their side when you pour from them. Not only is this messy and annoying, it\u2019s dangerous. Spilling boiling liquid can lead to burns, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thekitchn.com\/kitchen-safety-how-to-put-out-138233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grease fires<\/a>, and kitchen damage.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, manufacturers became aware of these shortcomings and installed spouts along the rims of their pans. Unfortunately, those spouts rarely translate into meaningful improvements for me and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americastestkitchen.com\/equipment_reviews\/1819-large-saucepans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">many others<\/a>. This is because pouring performance is dictated by more than a lip\u2014the pan also needs to be comfortable to hold.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth mentioning that, yes, with the right blend of confidence and practice you <em>can<\/em> successfully pour liquid from any saucepan. You also <em>could<\/em> hit a baseball with a tree branch. Thankfully, bats exist\u2014and so does this <a href=\"https:\/\/food52.com\/shop\/products\/3718-food52-x-dansk-kobenstyle-saucepan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dansk K\u00f8benstyle saucepan<\/a>, the only saucepan I hope to pour from moving forward.<\/p>\n<p>I got hold of this enamel-coated, steel beauty two weeks ago and I\u2019ve been confidently pouring melted butter, hot oil, and pickle brine from it ever since. The pouring improvements begin with the wooden handle. Narrow in the middle, but sturdy throughout, it\u2019s comfortable to grip and easily manipulated. Also, the wood doesn\u2019t heat up while you cook, meaning I don\u2019t need to wrap a dish towel around the handle to use it.<\/p>\n<p>The pan weighs just over two pounds when empty. It\u2019s enough mass to not feel cheap, but not so much that it feels like you\u2019re pouring from a dumbbell. The weight feels evenly distributed as well. Unlike some of the other pans I\u2019ve worked with, when you fill this one with liquid it doesn\u2019t feel like it\u2019s on the verge of tipping over.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the lip. The lip of all lips! This thing eliminates drips, spills, and pickle brine tidal waves. It creates a consistent, steady pour that\u2019s controllable and confidence inducing.
