The Wall Street Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\nAnd some of the exchanges are, well, awkward. And maybe even damning.<\/p>\n
At one point, Fetterman questioned why he continued to have meetings with representatives from Children\u2019s Hospital of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
The reason, it seems, is that they were concerned about vaccines and Medicaid cuts.<\/p>\n
Fetterman\u2019s response was blunt: \u201cWell I\u2019m not.\u201d Not a great response from a politician who claims to be a Democrat.<\/p>\n
He then suggested that hospital representatives simply wanted \u201cfree trips to DC.\u201d<\/p>\n
But perhaps the most shocking alleged exchange involved the funerals of three Pennsylvania police officers who were killed near York last year.<\/p>\n
A staffer informed Fetterman that the formal ceremony would begin at noon and last at least three hours. Fetterman\u2019s response?<\/p>\n
\n\u201c3 hours??\u201d<\/p>\n
When the staffer explained that the event was essentially the equivalent of three separate funerals, Fetterman reportedly responded, \u201cThis may be a nonstarter.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also complained that attending would involve \u201c9+ hours driving.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Fetterman reportedly claimed he was sick to avoid meeting with a group of paralyzed military veterans from Pennsylvania \u2014 only to appear on Fox News instead.<\/p>\n
One former staffer offered an especially brutal assessment of the senator\u2019s working style, telling CBS News: \u201cYou can\u2019t have any sort of substantial conversation with him about any policy or strategy without it becoming completely derailed or unhinged.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fetterman\u2019s office did not respond to CBS News\u2019 request for comment.<\/p>\n
The revelations have already prompted criticism from fellow Pennsylvania Democrats.<\/p>\n
Rep. Chris Deluzio called Fetterman\u2019s alleged behavior \u201cpathetic,\u201d citing his supposed \u201claziness\u201d and \u201cdisrespect\u201d and saying it demonstrated that the senator has \u201cno sense of duty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rep. Brendan Boyle was even more direct, calling Fetterman a \u201cdisgrace\u201d and \u201clazy trust fund baby.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fetterman, who was elected to the Senate in 2022 after previously serving as Pennsylvania\u2019s lieutenant governor, has long cultivated an unconventional political image.<\/p>\n
But apparently, there\u2019s a difference between refusing to wear a suit and refusing to meet with wounded vets.<\/p>\n
And if these texts are any indication, Fetterman may have discovered that even the age of Trump, politicians are still held to certain standards with regard to their behavior.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
