Sara Bareilles considers herself a musical ‘vessel’<\/p>\n
The singer and songwriter was interviewed about her career and upcoming album Good Grief on the Zach Sang Show, when she was asked about writing her famous track Gravity – which Sara admitted felt like a \u201clifetime ago\u201d. <\/p>\n
As she reflected on the inspiration for the tune, Sara opened up about her musical approach as a whole. <\/p>\n
She said: \u201cMy philosophy really about music, and I\u2019ve said this before, is that it\u2019s not\u00a0mine. It\u2019s just like the thing I was like the portal; I was like the available channel that that music was looking for to come through. <\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\u201cI really believe that we\u2019re just vessels, but I\u2019m so proud of that 18-year-old girl to be open to those big feelings and kind of capturing it that way. I think that\u2019s really special.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSara added that she wrote Gravity after her ex-boyfriend dumped her, with the now 46-year-old using songwriting as a form of therapy amid her heartbreak. <\/p>\n
\nShe mused: \u201cIt wasn\u2019t a conscious decision. It was just like I have so much ache, and I don\u2019t know where to put it. Music was always like the receptacle for that. Music was always the place I would go, even just as a listener, to try to make sense of the world.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThen when I started writing, like really writing, like I wrote since I was pretty young, but when I really started writing, I could feel that there was some kind of catharsis in that, but that I felt better when there was a way to sort of hold it somehow.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAs for what she learned from Gravity, Sara admitted that sharing it with other people was \u201ckind of scary\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHowever, she said: \u201cBut the affirmation I got around the sharing – because people would relate to it and it was very personal for them – but I was like there\u2019s like a connective thing that happens when you share something that\u2019s quite intimate, in a way that I don\u2019t think I was entirely aware of.\u201d<\/p>\n
