Zayn Malik<\/a><\/strong> of One Direction<\/a><\/strong> just gave his first interview in six years.<\/p>\n

The singer was a guest on the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy<\/a><\/strong><\/em> podcast with Alex Cooper<\/strong>, and he opened up about his quiet life in Pennsylvania with his two-year-old daughter, Khai. Malik also spoke about his pets\u2014he has three cats, three dogs, and a lot of chickens\u2014as well as his love of Wawa and how being a father has changed him as a person.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince I\u2019ve had my daughter, the main thing [on] my mind is trying to be a good example for her,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m even doing this interview. I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this, and I want her to look at me and be like, \u2018Yo, my dad\u2019s doing this!\u2019\u201d He added that being a father makes him feel like he has to \u201cstep up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malik shared a home at the Hadid family estate in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with his ex and mother of his child, Gigi Hadid<\/a>. <\/strong>Still, he moved out after their relationship ended in 2021 following an alleged physical altercation between Malik and Hadid\u2019s mother<\/a>, former Real Housewife of Beverly Hills<\/em> star Yolanda Hadid<\/a><\/strong>. Malik moved nearby, however, so he could be close to his daughter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew what happened and the people involved knew what happened too, and that\u2019s all I really cared about,\u201d Malik told Cooper of the alleged incident<\/a>. \u201cI just didn\u2019t want to bring attention to anything. I just wasn\u2019t trying to get into a negative back-and-forth with her, any sort of narrative online where my daughter was gonna look back and read that. If something happens in the family, I\u2019d rather keep that between the family; you don\u2019t need a whole audience of people.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for why he left One Direction. \u201cI completely selfishly wanted to be the first person to go and make my own record. If I\u2019m being completely honest with you, I was like, \u2018I\u2019m going to jump the gun here,\u2019\u201d Malik said. \u201cI\u2019m a passive dude, but when it comes to my music and my business, I\u2019m serious about it and I\u2019m competitive, so I wanted to be the first to go and do my own thing. That was the reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malik left One Direction during their 2015 tour, citing stress as the reason.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was obviously underlying issues within our friendships, too. We\u2019d got sick of each other, if I\u2019m being completely honest,\u201d Malik added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were close\u2026 we\u2019d done crazy things with each other that nobody else in the world will ever understand and I look back on it now in a much fonder light,\u201d Malik added. \u201cThere were great experiences, I had great times with them, but we\u2019d just run our course.\u201d<\/p>\n
