Pop star Selena Gomez<\/a> is asking a federal judge to dismiss fraud<\/a> claims against her after she was\u00a0accused in a lawsuit by investors<\/a>\u00a0who say she failed to fulfil her duties to build and promote her mental health startup.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Gomez and her mother, Mandy Teefey, were accused of allegedly deceiving investors of their mental health startup Wondermind to continue funding the company, according to legal documents<\/a>\u00a0obtained and viewed by Global News.<\/p>\n

In a motion filed Wednesday in Delaware, viewed by NBC News<\/a>, People<\/a> and Rolling Stone<\/a>, Gomez\u2019s lawyers asked a judge to dismiss the 34-year-old singer from the lawsuit and said she should have never been dragged into the case in the first place.<\/p>\n

Gomez\u2019s lawyer, Mathew S. Rosengart, shared a statement with Rolling Stone, calling the claims against her \u201ccompletely meritless if not frivolous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe notion that Selena engaged in \u2018fraud\u2019 or any other wrongdoing is absurd\u2014and in addition to filing our motion we are exploring other avenues of relief for Ms. Gomez including sanctions against plaintiffs for improperly including her,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Global News has reached out to Rosengart for further comment, but has not received a response.<\/p>\n

In the motion, the singer\u2019s lawyers reportedly said that the plaintiffs\u2019 \u201cvague, generalized, and contradictory allegations concerning Selena Gomez demonstrate that Ms. Gomez could not possible have engaged in any \u2018fraud\u2019 (she did not), is not liable to Plaintiffs (she is not) and, as a matter of law, must be dismissed from the lawsuit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The filing also reportedly states that Gomez \u201cdid not communicate with Plaintiffs, was not involved in Wondermind, Inc.\u2019s (the \u2018Company\u2019) securities offerings, and was not in a position to control the acts and communications of the Company.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wondermind was co-founded by Gomez, Teefey and Daniella Pierson in November 2021 and claims to share \u201cdoable ways to put your mental fitness first every day,\u201d according to the website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The motion says that Teefey and Pierson handled management as Wondermind\u2019s co-CEOs and board members and that Gomez was retained \u201cas a consultant and conferred on her title of Chief Impact Officer,\u201d NBC News reports.<\/p>\n

In the motion to dismiss, Gomez\u2019s legal team reportedly said that while the\u00a0Wizards of Waverly Place\u00a0<\/em>actor \u201cagreed to support her mother Mandy Teefey\u201d and invested in Wondermind, she \u201cnever agreed to and did not mange\u201d the company.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit filed earlier this month accuses Wondermind and the founders of falsely representing the company\u2019s \u201cinfrastructure, leadership, and resources necessary for the Company to launch into a profitable, one-of-its-kind mental health and wellness platform.\u201d<\/p>\n
