The 47-year-old actress discovered her health issues in February after undergoing a full-body MRI scan but her primary care physician originally tried to talk her out of it.<\/p>\n
She told PEOPLE: \u201cI didn\u2019t know why I wanted to get this scan except for the fact that I just did.\u201d<\/p>\n
After her primary care doctor insisted that she didn\u2019t need the scan, due to her age and good results from her annual physical, Busy consulted her cousin\u2019s husband, Beverly Hills internist Dr. Justin Donlan, who told her \u201cknowledge is power\u201d.<\/p>\n

Busy explained: \u201cWhat he said really resonated with me. I think that that really speaks to us as women. We are frequently told by doctors that there is nothing to worry about and you kind of know that there\u2019s something to worry about.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI do think that that is something that I hope, especially women, can take away from my experience. First of all, there\u2019s nothing to be afraid of in having information. It\u2019s only empowering. Secondly, if you feel anything, don\u2019t let some doctor be like, \u2018You don\u2019t need to do it.\u2019 That\u2019s a waste of time. See things through if you can.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cUltimately, we, as humans, have the ability to be in touch with what is going on inside of our own bodies if we\u2019re able to recognize it and listen to ourselves. Frequently, we dismiss ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe scan revealed a mass on Philipps\u2019 brain, which was revealed to be a grade 2 oligodendroglioma, found in just 1,100 to 1,300 people per year in the US.<\/p>\n
\nBusy also revealed that her friend and Dawson\u2019s Creek co-star Michelle Williams reminded her that she had felt like something was wrong for some time.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cWhen I first told her and she said, \u2018Busy, you have been saying for the past two years, My brain feels broken.\u2019 And she was right. I have. I\u2019ve been saying this for the last few years. I don\u2019t know, my brain feels broken.<\/p>\n
\n\u201c[Now] my brain does not feel broken anymore. I\u2019m kinda like good to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
