Michael Keaton<\/strong><\/a> has a dark role in this film as the actual Whisper Man, who has been locked away in a high-security prison. His credits include Beetlejuice<\/em>, Batman<\/em>, Batman Returns<\/em>, Birdman<\/em>, The Other Guys<\/em>, Spotlight<\/em>, and Spider-Man: Homecoming<\/em>, among many more. Michael<\/strong> also won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and an Actors Award for his work in the series Dopesick<\/em>. He’s also been nominated for an Academy Award and a BAFTA.<\/p>\n

At the end of the film, Frank murders his own son. <\/p>\n

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em>, director James Ashcroft<\/strong> provided some insight into the shocking scene, nothing that Michael<\/strong> improvised “a little.”<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately, one can never really know what\u2019s going on in the minds of people like that, nor would you really want to,\u201d he says. \u201cI was more concerned about the audience sensing that it\u2019s coming, but you don\u2019t want it to happen, even though for the entire film, you were hoping that this other guy was going to get caught. And now he becomes the final victim of the original Whisper Man. So you are torn. That\u2019s the place that we wanted the audience to sit in.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Who is the girl in the blue sweater?<\/h3>\n

Another part of the film that leaves viewers questioning is the moment that Tom finds a photo of his late wife and notices she matches the description of a girl in a blue sweater. Jake has seen this girl throughout the movie and it’s suggested she could be a ghostly apparition of his mom.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to keep it intentionally ambiguous,\u201d Ashcroft<\/strong> explained. \u201cI believe in the natural and the supernatural world. And it was always something in the book that I was very passionate about. Even though the main question and the theme of the film is about fathers and sons, it\u2019s very important to have that guiding presence of the mother always being there in the background throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n
