Jelly Roll<\/strong><\/a> is getting emotional on his final night as guest host of Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

For the past week, the 41-year-old country music singer has been serving as guest host of the ABC late-night show and on his final night as host on Thursday (August 27), Jelly Roll<\/strong> clarified his political beliefs, months after his controversial comments at the 2026 Grammys<\/em>.<\/p>\n

At the music awards show in February, Jelly Roll <\/strong>was asked about his politics, but declined to answer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot to say about it and I\u2019m going to in the next week,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cAnd everybody\u2019s going to hear exactly what I have to say in the most loud and clear way I\u2019ve ever spoken in my life. I look forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Jelly Roll<\/strong> never followed up on that…until now.<\/p>\n

After cracking jokes about President Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> in his Kimmel<\/em> monologues throughout the week, he caught a lot of flack from conservatives<\/a>, who believed that up until now, he was MAGA.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people seem to think these Jimmy Kimmel <\/em>writers have secretly been pulling the strings and forcing this good old country boy to poke fun at our commander-in-chief,\u201d Jelly Roll<\/strong> said. \u201cBut let\u2019s be real about this y\u2019all: Do you think I would take orders from some sweaty little dork named Josh? No, I was just telling it like it is. And for some reason that seemed to freak a lot of people out. I guess now that I\u2019ve lost all this weight folks can finally see I have balls.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is funny that before this week everybody thought I was MAGA,” he added. “And now they think I\u2019m some sort of liberal snowflake.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a more serious note, the “Save Me” singer clarified his political views.<\/p>\n

“Sure, I lean left on some things, but like most folks I\u2019m pretty down the middle,\u201d he said. \u201cI am a Christian. I am a country music singer. I\u2019m a farmer. I\u2019m a bow hunter. And most of things I eat I prefer to get with a stick and a string. That\u2019s the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then addressed his comments at the Grammys<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the last six months, I\u2019ve watched people decide who I am, what I am, what I believe, what I support and what I don\u2019t support,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I felt that even more this week, just because I told a couple of jokes. And honestly, this goes back further for me, y\u2019all. This goes back to February this year. I won my first. Actually, somehow on that night, I won three of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the single greatest moment and greatest honor of my career. I got called on that stage. I got handed my award that I\u2019ve been dreaming about since I was a child,” Jelly Roll <\/strong>recalled. “And immediately after, I was asked to make what I felt at the time was a political stance. I fumbled my words. Looking back, I don\u2019t necessarily regret asking for more time before I spoke. I wish more people took more time before they spoke. But I do wish I had found the words to express my heart just a little bit sooner. But I was afraid that anything I was going to say was going to be immediately taken as a political statement.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, ironically, by trying so hard not to make a political statement, I became one,\u201d he noted. \u201cI spent my entire career trying not to belong to a political party. Partly because until March of this year, I wasn\u2019t even allowed to vote. But now that I have that right, it\u2019s one I plan to exercise this coming November.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll<\/strong> then said that when he votes in the midterm elections later this year, he wants to represent \u201cthose without representation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI try to speak for the unspoken for,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that night at the Grammys<\/em>, I had an opportunity to speak up for people who were scared, hurting, and felt like nobody was speaking for them. I had a microphone and I didn\u2019t use it the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n

While choking back tears, Jelly Roll<\/strong> said, \u201cMy daddy always told me it is never too late to do the right thing,\u201d he said. \u201cSo I am going to try to do the right thing right now because human dignity isn\u2019t Republican nor Democrat. Compassion isn\u2019t left wing and mercy isn\u2019t right wing. Pain and healing knows no partisanship. Hurting hearts are more important than poll numbers and there are no boundaries or borders for broken families.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described himself as “a man of second chances” and said that America allowed him to become that.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s what I know: The American Dream can\u2019t just be for people like me,\u201d he said. \u201cSecond chances, grace, dignity, opportunity, it can\u2019t just be for people like me. Redemption, empathy, decency, and hope, it can\u2019t just be for people like me. The American Dream should be for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

After explaining that his late father was a veteran and because he was always told to respect people who serve in the military, Jelly Roll<\/strong> said that he will always shake the hand of the United States president, regardless of their politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father would have been disappointed had I done anything other than that,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m proud that I was able to shake the president of the United States\u2019 hand. I\u2019m also proud that I\u2019m in a country where I can make jokes about him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then noted that \u201ca handshake is not an endorsement,” \u201ca conversation is not an allegiance, and “a joke is not a political point of view.”<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll<\/strong> concluded his monologue by once again getting emotional as he shared another story about his late dad, who was a “blue back Democrat,” and his uncle, who was a “red hat Republican.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThis might be hard for people to understand out there, but they were absolutely best friends,\u201d he recounted, explaining that his father told him there were “hundreds of things they did agree on and only a few they didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPoliticians and algorithms make an absolute fortune convincing us that the person across the street from us is the reason our life is hard,\u201d Jelly Roll <\/strong>concluded. \u201cI just want us to remember that the person across the street is a human being before they\u2019re a voter.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you didn’t see, Jelly Roll<\/strong> also addressed speculation he used Ozempic<\/a> to drop nearly 300lbs.<\/p>\n
