Jane Fonda<\/strong><\/a> is the latest star to come forward<\/a> and publicly voice their support for Mark Ruffalo<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you didn’t know, the 58-year-old Avengers<\/em> actor has been a vocal opponent of Paramount Skydance\u2019s proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery since the deal was first announced in February.<\/p>\n

During a recent back-and-forth, Paramount Skydance accused the Oscar-nominated actor of being “antisemitic.”<\/a><\/p>\n

Following the allegations, Jane<\/strong>, 88, and her Committee for the First Amendment<\/a> organization released a statement defending Mark<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cMark Ruffalo has a First Amendment right to speak out about politics, powerful corporations and this dangerous merger \u2014 full stop,\u201d the two-time Oscar winner wrote on Instagram <\/a>on Tuesday, August 25. \u201cCalling his criticism antisemitic is a smear to delegitimize criticism of the merger and to distract from the question Paramount would rather not answer: should one company be allowed to accumulate this much power over our movies, television and news?\u201d<\/p>\n

Why are Mark Ruffalo and Paramount feuding?<\/h3>\n

Previously, Mark<\/strong> called out the Ellison<\/strong> family over the Paramount-Warner Bros merger, comparing Larry Ellison<\/strong>, Oracle\u2019s former CEO and a billionaire with a controlling stake in Paramount that is being managed by his son, David Ellison<\/strong>, to a \u201cclassic Oligarch.\u201d<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Paramount then responded to Mark<\/strong>\u2018s message saying the company is \u201ctroubled when antisemitic tropes are invoked in purported service of a business dispute. Words like \u2018genocide\u2019 and \u2018apartheid,\u2019 applied to a corporate transaction, aren\u2019t just wrong \u2014 they\u2019re a bridge too far, and they cheapen the very real suffering those words are meant to describe. This doesn\u2019t deserve a response in kind \u2014 and to be clear, we don\u2019t tolerate prejudice of any kind, against anyone,\u201d per Variety<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n
