Page Six<\/a>). \u201cIt feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes.\u201d<\/p>\nThe eldest Reiner son recalled learning that something was terribly wrong after receiving a call from his sister, Romy.<\/p>\n
\u201cRomy told me our dad was dead and then she said, \u2018I can\u2019t find mom,\u2019\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n
Rob and Michele were found dead at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Their deaths were determined to have resulted from multiple sharp force injuries.<\/p>\n
Nick was arrested shortly afterward and has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder. He is currently being held without bail while awaiting further proceedings.<\/p>\n
For Jake, however, the legal case is only one part of a much larger nightmare.<\/p>\n
\u201cI physically lost my parents. And then Nick was arrested. \u2026 He\u2019s in jail,\u201d he explained. \u201cAnd now it\u2019s me and Romy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jake and Romy previously described their parents as their \u201cbest friends\u201d in a joint statement following the killings. Jake later wrote about the devastating loss in an April essay, acknowledging the complicated reality of mourning his parents while his brother was accused of killing them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe lost more than half of our family that night in the most violent way imaginable,\u201d he wrote at the time.<\/p>\n
\nJake also spoke about the unconditional love his parents had for all three of their children, including Nick, who has struggled with addiction and mental health issues for years.<\/p>\n
He pointed specifically to the 2015 film Being Charlie<\/a><\/em>, which Nick co-wrote and Rob directed, as an effort by his father to understand and connect with his son.<\/p>\n\u201cMy parents had unconditional love for all three of us,\u201d Jake said. \u201cThey never stopped wanting to help him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jake and Romy have not attended Nick\u2019s court hearings, although both siblings recently testified before the grand jury that indicted him. The contents of their testimony remain unknown.<\/p>\n
Asked about the tragedy and whether he expects to ever understand why it happened, Jake offered a devastatingly simple response.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll never understand,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t care what facts come out. I will never understand why this happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nick\u2019s next pre-trial hearing is scheduled for September 15. He faces life in prison without parole or potentially the death penalty if convicted.<\/p>\n
