Ridley Scott<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about the future of the Alien<\/strong><\/a><\/em> movie franchise! <\/p>\n

The 88-year-old Oscar-nominated filmmaker has directed three of the films, including the first one, and more recently, 2017’s Alien: Covenant<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In a new interview promoting his upcoming film The Dog Stars<\/a><\/em>, Ridley<\/strong> confirmed he’s working on a third Alien<\/em> prequel, which would serve as a sequel to Alien: Covenant<\/em> and has been in the works for several years.<\/p>\n

While speaking with the LA Times<\/a><\/em>, Ridley<\/strong> revealed that the new movie would pick up with Michael Fassbender<\/strong><\/a>‘s character, David, as he creates a “brave new world for himself.” He also said he’s fascinated by the character, who is a malfunctioning AI. <\/p>\n

“AIs can go off,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd if they do, it\u2019s like a bomb.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he has made several films about AI in the past and plans to continue making more, Ridley<\/strong> says he prefers making movies about AI and not using it himself. <\/p>\n

“The uneasy question is: Can the AI only be as good as the information fed into it?\u201d the acclaimed filmmaker shared. \u201cIf I say \u2018Here\u2019s a blank canvas, write me such and such,\u2019 would that just be a m\u00e9lange of millions of other scripts? Probably. But the danger is it\u2019ll pass that point and become smarter than we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Alien: Covenant <\/em>sequel would mark Ridley<\/strong>‘s first return to the franchise, after he said<\/a>, “I think I’ve done enough,” in response to where the franchise was going.<\/p>\n

Since his last film, only one movie has been released, Alien: Romulus<\/em>, as well as a spinoff TV series, Alien: Earth<\/em>.<\/p>\n
