She\u2019s trying to rally herself, but most days she looks lost,\u201d one source told <a href=\"https:\/\/radaronline.com\/p\/dolly-parton-drowning-in-grief-without-husband-carl-dean-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Radar Online<\/a> at the time. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarl was her rock. She depended on him more than people realized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKnowing Carl for decades and being the most important person in her life, now that he is gone, as much as she can take comfort in other family members and fans having her back, it is never the same,\u201d the insider added.<\/p>\n<p>Another source says that in her final months, Dolly \u201cwas not eating right, not doing the things she usually would do for her continued health, and she let things slip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Carl died, that was the first time brakes were applied and reality set in and she didn\u2019t know how to handle it,\u201d the insider continued.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DceW9T5JHnu\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>In the days following Carl\u2019s death, Dolly took every opportunity to pay tribute to her loving husband, who famously maintained a low profile throughout her career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old. We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together,\u201d she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DG4sVjMMuB8\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted on Instagram<\/a>\u00a0after his passing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh, you know what, I get very emotional when people bring it up,\u201d Parton told <em>Today<\/em>\u2018s Savannah Guthrie, in June of last year, as she struggled to fight back tears. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight after I had lost Carl, I was just so bottled up with emotion, and I got in the van and just boo-hooed for the longest time, just feeling all that love and emotion,\u201d she continued, adding:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a big adjustment just trying to change patterns and habits. I\u2019ll do fine, and I\u2019m very involved in my work, and that\u2019s been the best thing that could happen to me. But I\u2019ll always miss him, of course, and always love him.
