Sir Ian McKellen broke his Golden Globe<\/p>\n
\nThe 87-year-old actor, who won the prize for best supporting actor on TV in 1997 for his role in Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny, has recalled the moment he accidentally left the statuette in pieces after getting too curious about how it fit together.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking in upcoming Sky Arts special, Tea with Judi Dench Featuring Sir Ian McKellen, he said: “I was intrigued as to how this Golden Globe was put together.<\/p>\n
\n“And I discovered that on the bottom there was a screw, and I undid the screw and it all fell apart.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\n“I couldn’t put it together again, and then they said, ‘Will you please send us back your statue?’ to engrave my name on it, so I had to say, ‘I can’t find it!’ “<\/p>\n
\nThe award was the first and only Golden Globe he’s won in his illustrious career, having also been nominated for his work in both Richard III in 1996, and Gods and Monsters in 1999.<\/p>\n
\nDame Judi, 91, once had her own awkward awards moment, when the Oscar she had won for best supporting actress following her turn in 1998’s Shakespeare in Love.<\/p>\n
\nThe prize didn’t actually have her name on it, as she explained: “The name plates were stolen two nights before the Academy Awards.”<\/p>\n
\nAs quoted by new! magazine, Sir Ian revealed he finds Dame Judi such “exceptionally good company” that he often forgot cameras were rolling for the new Sky Arts programme in the UK.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “To be honest, I forgot that our chat was being overheard.<\/p>\n
\n“It’s always fun remembering with colleagues one’s own age. Of course, as the years pile up, it’s likely that memories can fade.”<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, Judi loved getting to catch up with such a dear friend.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: “I met Ian on the path [to my front door], we came in and sat down at the kitchen table, and we never drew breath.<\/p>\n
\n“It was all so completely spontaneous, just what it should be like between two people who have known each other for such a long time and share so many memories.”<\/p>\n
