Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> looked back on the way her 2006 debut single, \u201cTim McGraw,\u201d predicted her life now following her wedding<\/a> to Travis Kelce<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I look back at the song \u2018Tim McGraw,\u2019 there are actually sort of hints at everything that was going to happen in the next 20 years,\u201d Swift, 36, revealed in The Icon Sessions with Taylor Swift: A 20-Year Retrospective<\/em><\/a>, released on Monday, August 24.<\/p>\n

The track \u2014 which was the lead single from Swift\u2019s self-titled first album \u2014 tells the bittersweet story of a summer romance, where the narrator asks her ex-boyfriend to think of her whenever he hears country music legend Tim McGraw<\/strong>\u2019s music.<\/p>\n

Swift reflected on the opening verse, where she sang, \u201cHe said the way my blue eyes shined \/ Put those Georgia stars to shame that night.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had never been to Georgia,\u201d she joked. \u201cThat was not real. That had not happened. But, as you are working around \u2018character\u2019 and what feels like what this character would have said. What paints a picture that informs a story that we just locked into because that first line describes so much for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift also felt that \u201cTim McGraw\u201d exemplified her preferred songwriting style where \u201ca song [exists] as a message.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a song that jumps forward in time,\u201d she pointed out. \u201cEven in jumping forward in time, it\u2019s saying, \u2018I hope you reflect back in time.\u2019 It\u2019s a sort of time machine song.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Swift has explored many musical genres throughout her career, \u2018Tim McGraw\u2019 was a hallmark of country music\u2019s influence on her early career.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love my country roots more and more the farther along this path I get,\u201d she said. \u201cI want to honor them more and more. I feel more and more tied to them, more loyal to them. The people who shaped who I am as an artist and a writer, that all happened in Nashville.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTim McGraw\u201d ultimately reached #6 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2006 and won \u201cBreakthrough Video of the Year\u201d at the 2007 CMT Music Awards.<\/p>\n
