Local Texas authorities are sharing new details regarding the moments leading up to and immediately following the tragic drowning death<\/a> of NFL player Ed Oliver\u2019<\/strong>s toddler son, also named Ed.<\/p>\n

According to the Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office, deputies responded to \u201can in-progress life-in-danger call\u201d at the Buffalo Bills star\u2019s Texas home on the evening of June 28. ESPN<\/em><\/a> and TMZ<\/em> <\/a>were first to report the news.<\/p>\n

According to local officials, first responders were told the 2-year-old child was found \u201cunresponsive in the pool\u201d by his parents. (Oliver also shares a daughter, Eva, with his longtime partner Dymond Gladney<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

Per authorities, the toddler was taken to a local Houston, Texas, hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:18 pm that evening. The sheriff\u2019s office did not name Oliver in their statement. Us<\/em> has reached out to a representative for the sheriff\u2019s office for comment.<\/p>\n

According to TMZ<\/em>, the NFL player could be seen \u201cspeaking with law enforcement before breaking down in tears as he sat on the ground outside his home.\u201d Us<\/em> has reached out to the Bills for comment.<\/p>\n

The Bills organization acknowledged the tragic accident on Saturday, sharing a statement of support for Oliver and his family during such a difficult time.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son,\u201d Brandon Beane<\/strong>, general manager of the Bills, said in the statement, shared via social media. \u201cIt\u2019s an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss.\u201d<\/p>\n

ESPN<\/em> and NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe<\/strong> further reported via X<\/a> that a source said that Oliver, 28, was asking for \u201cprivacy and prayers at this very difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to ESPN<\/em>, the Bills organization has been \u201caware of the incident since it occurred.\u201d Per the outlet, Oliver has been participating in team activities throughout this year\u2019s training camp and ahead of the 2026-2027 NFL season. ESPN<\/em> also reports that the Bills and Oliver \u201cwere aligned\u201d prior to the organization publicly confirming the toddler\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
