It took three years before Sandra Bullock<\/a> could find the right words to express her grief over the loss of her partner. In August 2023, 57-year-old photographer Bryan Randall passed away<\/a> from complications related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is also known as Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n The Oscar winner<\/a> broke her silence about the loss in an interview on the SmartLess<\/em> podcast, which is hosted by Jason Bateman<\/a>, Will Arnett<\/a>, and Sean Hayes<\/a>. (The episode, which is available via SiriusXM<\/a> for early access subscribers, will be on all podcast platforms as of August 24.) But she had to bear that burden in secret, as Randall \u201casked me not to share\u201d his diagnosis, she said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t allowed to speak about it. That was the request and I tried\u2014I honored it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n The global pandemic, which began in 2020, further \u201cisolated me in the process,\u201d she said. That, plus raising her two young children (Louis, now 16, and Laila, now 12) and caring for Randall as his condition worsened, was \u201ca trifecta that was pretty dark.”<\/p>\n \u201cMy person left a lot earlier than the body left,\u201d Sandra Bullock said of Randall’s experience with the degenerative disease. \u201cI don\u2019t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you\u2019re just on this treadmill, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
