The round was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz, Carlyle, and JPMorgan Chase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Founded in 2022, Castelion <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/10\/05\/a16z-backed-castelion-wants-to-mass-produce-defense-hardware-starting-with-hypersonics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">set out to<\/a> manufacture hypersonic weapon systems at a lower cost and at faster speeds than traditional defense primes. Since then, the startup has secured more than\u00a0$500\u00a0million in\u00a0U.S.\u00a0military contracts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funding for the startup is timely. The Pentagon has been looking to procure more of these weapons, since the U.S.\u2019s stockpile of hypersonic missiles capable of traveling at speeds above Mach 5 hasn\u2019t kept pace with China\u2019s.
