The campaign compromised <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/08\/27\/fbi-says-chinas-salt-typhoon-hacked-at-least-200-us-companies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hundreds<\/a> of phone companies, internet giants, and data center providers with the goal of collecting phone records and information about senior U.S. government officials, including then-presidential candidates. Hacked companies <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/12\/30\/verizon-says-it-has-secured-its-network-after-breach-by-china-linked-salt-typhoon-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">included AT&amp;T, Verizon<\/a>, satellite phone network <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/03\/09\/salt-typhoon-china-who-has-been-hacked-global-telecom-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Viasat<\/a>, and network infrastructure giants <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/03\/09\/salt-typhoon-china-who-has-been-hacked-global-telecom-giants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Charter and Windstream<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By and large, T-Mobile escaped <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/11\/16\/t-mobile-hack-linked-to-chinese-breaches-of-telecom-networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a widescale breach of its network<\/a> by catching the activity early \u2014 and resorted to physically cutting the cable to a compromised system, per Bloomberg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The publication said T-Mobile\u2019s cyber staff spent months looking for suspected hackers in its network without success.
