Gayle King<\/a> has hit out at Hayden Panettiere’s estranged mom’s comments following the actress’ death.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Gayle King was unimpressed by Hayden Panettiere’s mom<\/p>\n
The Heroes’ actress passed away on Sunday (16.08.26) at the age of 36 and Lesley Vogel subsequently reflected on how her daughter had “sadly lost her way” and told how she wished she had \u201cstayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reading out the remarks, Gayle added on CBS Mornings: \u201cYou know, guys, you read this and all I can think is, \u2018Thanks, Mom, for nothing.’ “<\/p>\n
Vladimir Duthiers added: \u201cI mean, Hayden Panettiere spent years publicly acknowledging her own failures, her own struggles. She did it with you in that interview. She cannot respond now, and for her mother to use these days after Hayden\u2019s death to just remind the world just how much trauma she caused, it\u2019s unseemly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gayle noted the Nashville star’s previous comments about having a complicated relationship with her mom – who was Hayden’s manager until she was 19 – and added: “You hear stuff like that and you realise it was still very much [a work] in progress.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt makes me so sad of the opportunity that you have after your daughter\u2019s death that that\u2019s what you choose to leave us with.”<\/p>\n
\nKelly O’Grady added \u201cwe would all agree\u201d if Vogel had \u201cstopped at \u2018she\u2019s amazing and she\u2019s talented.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nVladimir added: \u201cYou would hope a mother\u2019s instinct is just mourn your daughter.”<\/p>\n
\nPraising Hayden’s dad, Alan Panettiere’s statement about her death, Gayle added: “\u201cFollow the lead of your partner, the father of her child.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nIn an interview with NBC News conducted two days after her daughter’s death, Lesley described Hayden as \u201can amazingly talented person in so many departments.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cI think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry, it is a struggle and it\u2019s a very challenging industry and it\u2019s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself, and I think Hayden sadly lost her way, and I wish it were different. I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHayden previously reflected on how her relationship with her mother grew strained as the boundaries between her as a parent and manager increasingly crossed.<\/p>\n
\nShe said on On Purpose with Jay Shetty in May: \u201cEverything was business. I became the confidant and the assistant and the therapist and the shoulder to cry on and everything but her child.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhile filming Heroes when she was 19,she told Lesley she wanted to find new management in the hope of rebuilding their personal relationship.<\/p>\n
\nShe recalled: \u201cI said to her, \u2018I don\u2019t want us to work together anymore. I just want you to be my mom.’ [She said] ‘You owe me.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI remember being hopeful.”<\/p>\n
\nBut she noted it was \u201cdisappointing\u201d when she came to believe her mother was referring to money. <\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cThe fact that she didn\u2019t care to have a relationship with me was a tough pill to swallow.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHayden remained close to her father, and it was Alan who broke the news of her death.<\/p>\n
\nHe said in a statement through her representative: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. <\/p>\n
\n“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her – and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”<\/p>\n
