Shirley MacLaine<\/strong><\/a> is making a very rare appearance.<\/p>\n

The 92-year-old Oscar winner appears in a video for the Southampton Playhouse, ahead of a planned screening of Sweet Charity<\/em> on Tuesday (August 25). <\/p>\n

\u201cWish I could be with you,” she says in the sweet video message.<\/p>\n

She recalled “how hard we worked,” and added: “Between you and me, it didn\u2019t do very well, so I hope you guys like it.\u201d Watch the video right here.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 1969 film adaptation, directed by Bob Fosse<\/strong>, was indeed a major box office bomb: it cost an estimated $20 million to make and grossed only about $8 million during its theatrical run, resulting in a loss for Universal Pictures.<\/p>\n

“Today it seems ahead of its time with startling cinematic effects that literally make the camera one of the dancers,” TCM<\/a> notes.<\/p>\n

When Did Shirley MacLaine Last Appear in Public?<\/h3>\n

After a career spanning over 70 years,\u00a0Shirley<\/strong>\u00a0has been enjoying life out of the spotlight in recent years. <\/p>\n

Her last appearance was last year at the inaugural Dance Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where she received a Lifetime Achievement Award, named after herself in her honor.<\/p>\n

Her last acting roles were in 2022 when she appeared in Season 2 of\u00a0Only Murders in the Building<\/em>. That same year, she starred alongside\u00a0Peter Dinklage<\/strong>\u00a0in the comedy film\u00a0American Dreamer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

She also made a rare public outing for lunch back in November.<\/a><\/p>\n
