Noah Centineo is sober<\/p>\n
\nThe 30-year-old actor revealed in 2018 he was sober but two years later admitted he was no longer completely clean, and while he is “on the straight and narrow” when working, he has struggled during his down time so has quit the booze again after realising just how “terrible” social drinking makes him feel.<\/p>\n
\nHe said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast: \u201cWhen I\u2019m working, I try to be really really on the straight and narrow. There\u2019s a huge responsibility on these projects, and I take them seriously.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cMy problem is if I have a couple days or weeks between the projects where I go home and I\u2019m with my family, and I\u2019m like, \u2018I want to drink a bottle of wine with my sister and my mom or I want to drink whiskey with my dad,\u2019 that\u2019s when I end up, like, blowing out because I\u2019ve been so regimented.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
\n\u201cFor me, the balance right now is [that] I\u2019m back on the wagon, [the] proverbial wagon. I think I will be for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe To All the Boys I Love Before actor felt lucky he tackled his issues with drugs and alcohol when he did, because he thinks his problems could have got “way worse” if he hadn’t taken action when he found himself at a “crossroads”.<\/p>\n
\nHe said:\u201cI do think it\u2019s just lucky I was able to recognise what was happening to me in my life and the patterns of destruction that I just continued to fortify and partake and participate in.<\/p>\n
\n“I went, \u2018I think I\u2019m at a crossroads. I think if I don\u2019t figure this out and stop now, it\u2019s going to get way worse.\u2019 I believe that I was right.”<\/p>\n
\nNoah admitted things were “difficult” at the time so he’ll always be grateful for the support around him.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI also had an overwhelming amount of support and love from a community, my parents and my sister and access to resources that make it a hell of a lot easier to recognise when things are going wrong.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt was difficult for me, and it was my experience, and I\u2019m still reckoning with that in my own ways in my own life. [It is] quite privileged \u2026 that I can even identify it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNoah began experimenting with drugs shortly after landing the role of Jesus Foster on The Fosters in 2015 but eventually got “scared” by what was happening to him.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cBefore I was on The Fosters, I was just a Valley kid. I was, like, auditioning and hanging out with friends and smoking a lot of weed and partying. <\/p>\n
\n“I wasn\u2019t really doing hard drugs quite yet.<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI started to dabble right around the time right after I booked The Fosters, but it wasn\u2019t really because of anything outside of, like, I was in a relationship with someone when I was 18. They were a little older, and they were doing it, and I was like, \u2018Oh, yeah, this is fun. You\u2019re doing it. You\u2019re cool. I think I love you.\u2019 “<\/p>\n
\nWorking on The Fosters gave the actor a “sense of comfort” to continue the “lifestyle”.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cI thought that I had a buffer because I was making enough money to, like, support that lifestyle.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBy the time I turned 21, I woke up one morning, and there was a different guy looking outside of my head than the day before, and that scared me.\u201d<\/p>\n
