The actress was found unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday, 16 August, after an acquaintance called 911 at about 1.51pm. <\/p>\n
Emergency medical crews found Hayden in cardiac arrest and performed advanced cardiac life support, but she was pronounced dead at 2.32pm. <\/p>\n
The Greenville County Coroner\u2019s Office said on Monday (17.08.26) the cause and manner of her death remain pending while additional studies are completed.<\/p>\n

Greenville County coroner Mike Ellis said an autopsy had been performed and it found no trauma contributing to Hayden\u2019s death. <\/p>\n
\nAuthorities have said the investigation remains active, while police previously reported finding no evidence of foul play or suspicious circumstances.<\/p>\n
\nDetails have also emerged about the emergency response after the 911 call. <\/p>\n
\nDispatch audio obtained by media outlets included references to a possible \u201coverdose\u201d and cardiac arrest, although officials have not determined that an overdose caused Hayden\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
\nTMZ reported that Narcan \u2013 the opioid-overdose reversal medication naloxone \u2013 was found inside the residence, along with a device used to administer it. <\/p>\n
\nThe outlet also reported epinephrine, or adrenaline, was used during attempts to save Hayden. <\/p>\n
\nThe presence of Narcan does not establish a cause of death, which remains subject to the coroner\u2019s investigation and further testing.<\/p>\n
\nA neighbor identified by WYFF as Lee described hearing \u201cjust a bunch of commotion in the hallway\u201d as emergency crews responded. <\/p>\n
\nHe said he initially heard that somebody had collapsed and subsequently heard references to cardiac arrest, but could not confirm what had happened inside the residence.<\/p>\n
\nHayden\u2019s death was announced by her family through her representative. <\/p>\n
\nHer father, Alan \u201cSkip\u201d Panettiere, described his daughter as \u201can incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy\u201d, while the family asked for privacy.<\/p>\n
\nHer death came only three months after the publication of her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, on May 19. <\/p>\n
\nThe book became a New York Times and USA Today bestseller and addressed Hayden\u2019s experiences as a child star as well as addiction and recovery, postpartum depression, trauma, domestic abuse and the death of her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, who died aged 28 in 2023.<\/p>\n
\nHayden had previously spoken publicly about her struggles with alcohol and opioid addiction.<\/p>\n
\nIn the memoir, she also wrote about the difficulties she experienced after becoming a mother and her decision to relinquish custody of her daughter while dealing with substance abuse.<\/p>\n
\nShe became one of television\u2019s most recognizable young stars playing cheerleader Claire Bennet in NBC\u2019s Heroes, which ran from 2006 to 2010. <\/p>\n
\nClaire possessed regenerative powers that made her effectively indestructible, and Hayden\u2019s performance became central to the superhero drama during its hugely successful first season.<\/p>\n
\nHayden later played troubled country singer Juliette Barnes in Nashville from 2012 to 2018, earning two Golden Globe nominations for the role. <\/p>\n
\nHer other major credits included Remember the Titans, Scream 4 and Scream VI, in which she played horror survivor Kirby Reed. Her final film role was in the 2026 psychological thriller Sleepwalker.<\/p>\n
\nShe is survived by her daughter Kaya, 11, whom she shared with former fianc\u00e9 Wladimir Klitschko, 50, the Ukrainian former heavyweight boxing world champion.<\/p>\n
