The 63-year-old actor and musician is currently “talking” to Jerry Bruckheimer<\/strong><\/a> about the sixth movie in the film franchise, according to the 82-year-old producer.<\/p>\n

What Jerry Bruckheimer said about Johnny Depp<\/h3>\n

Jerry<\/strong> confirmed the news at D23<\/strong><\/a> to Deadline <\/em>over the weekend, who said that “we\u2019re talking with Johnny (Depp)<\/strong>, we\u2019re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnny<\/strong> has played the eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow in the film series.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time he’s confirmed the news: last year, he said to EW<\/em><\/strong> “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”<\/p>\n

In addition, Deadline<\/em> sources<\/a> said the next movie “won\u2019t feel like just the nth tale of Captain Jack Sparrow, rather the next chapter will focus on Margot Robbie<\/strong>\u2019s protagonist with Sparrow as a side character. Essentially, an evolution of the franchise.”<\/p>\n

When was the last Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em> movie released?<\/h3>\n

The latest movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales<\/em>, was released in 2017 and brought in nearly $800 million worldwide. The overall franchise has brought in over $4.5 billion at the box office.<\/p>\n

The high-profile 2022 defamation trial between the actor and ex Amber Heard<\/strong> resulted in a largely favorable verdict for Johnny<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

He alleged that he was let go from the film franchise after\u00a0Amber<\/strong>\u2018s 2018 op-ed, in which\u00a0she alluded to allegations of domestic abuse<\/a>.\u00a0Johnny\u00a0<\/strong>responded to the essay by suing the actress for $50 million in damages. <\/p>\n
