The 59-year-old actress wed her Days of Thunder co-star in 1990 when she was just 23 years old and though she was advised such a high-profile union ould overshadow her career, she didn’t care because she was so besotted and it felt like the “natural” thing to do.<\/p>\n
She told Britain’s Vogue magazine: “I got married so young. Suddenly I was 22, 23 years old and I had this huge movie star husband. But it just seemed completely natural. We just fell madly in love and it was that simple. <\/p>\n
“I remember people saying to me, \u2018OK, well this is really going to affect your career.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018I don\u2019t care. I\u2019m in love. I want to be married.\u2019 <\/p>\n

“And then I was his \u2018wife\u2019 and they were like, \u2018See, we told you.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018So what? I wasn\u2019t meant to marry the man I love? Of course I\u2019ll throw my career away. I don\u2019t care.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nNicole and Tom split in 2001 and she went on to marry Keith Urban in June 2006 before they split last year.<\/p>\n
\nAnd the Practical Magic 2 actress – who has four children, two from each of her marriages – insisted going through one high-profile divorce didn’t prepare her for doing it again.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cIt\u2019s all new. Every time!\u201d <\/p>\n
\nNicole is still processing the end of her marriage to Keith because she has always taken a “feelings first” approach to life.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThat\u2019s just who I am. I don\u2019t overthink things and I\u2019m probably not that analytical. I\u2019m far more feeling-centred and I lead with my heart. I just go, \u2018OK, what do I feel here? I\u2019ll give it a go.\u2019 It throws people, because I think they think I\u2019ll be far more measured and I\u2019m not.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI can still approach things intellectually, but my desire is not to be ruled by my head.<\/p>\n
\n“I\u2019ve always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail? Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nThe Big Little Lies star admitted she felt “very fearful and deeply vulnerable” in the wake of her second divorce because she knows she won’t have the future she planned, but she’s now looking to the future with optimism.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “At the same time I\u2019m like, \u2018OK, I didn\u2019t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now.\u2019 You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it\u2019s all going to be like and then it\u2019s\u2026 not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it\u2019s completely unknown to me right now. Strange.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThere was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable,\u201d she replies, \u201cwhich is exposing. And then at the same time [I\u2019m] going, \u201cWell, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
