Matthew McConaughey has shared some career advice<\/p>\n
The 56-year-old movie star has offered some career advice to his 18-year-old son, Levi, who is following his footsteps in Hollywood.<\/p>\n
Speaking to E! News, Matthew reflected: “You\u2019ve got to be able to deal with rejection, that\u2019s part of it.<\/p>\n
“You\u2019ve got to hopefully love doing it and love the process so much that enough \u2018nos\u2019 don\u2019t matter. If not, it\u2019s not for you, because I was taught, there\u2019s no \u2018help wanted\u2019 signs in Hollywood.”<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Matthew – who also has Vida, 16, and Livingston, 13, with his wife Camila – observed that it takes “troubadours and rebels” to make it in the movie business.<\/p>\n
\nHe explained: “I just try to push, to say, \u2018It\u2019s better to make a fool of yourself and find out\u2019 then to leave an audition and go, \u2018Oh I had that moment and I hesitated’.<\/p>\n
\n“Make a fool of yourself. Fail more. Try and fail more. No one gives as much of a damn as you think they do.”<\/p>\n
\nDespite this, Matthew wants his son to forge his own path in life, rather than simply following in his footsteps.<\/p>\n
\nThe actor said: “I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s something he\u2019s going to want to pursue as a career. But as we\u2019ve done what we\u2019ve always done, Camila and I will do our best to open doors and then after that it\u2019s up to our kids to do what they do with it.”<\/p>\n
\nMatthew previously starred alongside his teenage son in The Lost Bus, the 2025 survival drama film, and he admitted to feeling particularly proud of Levi.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking on the Today show, Matthew shared: “There was an extra, sort of soul to it for me. <\/p>\n
\n“It felt very professional doing it with him, though. I said, \u2018I can help coach you, I can help teach you what I can. But once we show up on the day, I\u2019m not there as a safety net.\u2019 And he showed up.<\/p>\n
\n“He\u2019s not looking at me to go, \u2018Hey, is it okay? How\u2019d I do?\u2019 He worked with the director and I sat back as a proud dad going, \u2018There we go.'”<\/p>\n
