David Foster<\/a> has slammed suggestions he \u201csnubbed\u201d Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, at a recent charity event.<\/p>\n

The 76-year-old producer was involved in a viral moment last week when video footage of him and wife Katherine McPhee<\/a> stepping up to pose with the former actress and her husband Prince Harry appeared to show him walk past Meghan\u2019s outstretched hand without acknowledging her.<\/p>\n

The quartet then posed for photographs together on the red carpet at the event, which was held to mark 40 years of his David Foster<\/a> Foundation, and David has now hit out at speculation surrounding the \u201cawkward moment\u201d as he insisted he had already spoken to his \u201cdear friends\u201d just minutes before the footage was filmed.<\/p>\n

He said in a statement shared with People magazine: \u201cAs the host of the David Foster<\/a> and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone. Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine. Anyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cIt\u2019s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait. They turned simple \u2018positioning\u2019 to get the best photo into a hurtful lie.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nKatherine and Meghan, 45, attended the same school in Los Angeles, and the 42-year-old singer previously told how their husbands had struck up a \u201ccute\u201d friendship.<\/p>\n

\nSpeaking in 2020, Katherine told Access Hollywood: \u201cMy husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThey\u2019re like, they\u2019re so cute. They\u2019re like father and son\u2026 We just stay in touch with them. But mostly, Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends. It\u2019s really nice.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nAnd back in 2019, David arranged for the royal couple to stay at a house on Vancouver Island owned by one of his friends and he was happy to be able to help them find \u201crespite\u201d away from the spotlight.<\/p>\n

\nHe previously told the Daily Mail: \u201cI felt honoured that I was able to help Meghan there because I\u2019m a Canadian, and we\u2019re a Commonwealth country; we\u2019re the Crown\u2019s. It\u2019s important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cI was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off.\u201d<\/p>\n
