Nick Reiner has been indicted<\/p>\n
The 32 year old – who has been held at the Los Angeles Twin Towers Correctional Facility since December 2025 after being charged over the fatal stabbings of the filmmaker and his wife at their home in Brentwood, California – pleaded not guilty on Wednesday (12.08.26) to two counts of murder with the special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. He also faces another special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon in the form of a knife, TMZ reports.<\/p>\n
The new charges replace the original murder charges filed against Nick last year, and emerged after the indictment, which was returned by a grand jury last month, was unsealed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement: “This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing. The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”<\/p>\n

Special circumstances can increase potential penalties if found guilty at trial and opens the door for the district attorney to pursue the death penalty if Nick is convicted.<\/p>\n
\nHis lawyer, public defender Kimberly Greene declined to comment.<\/p>\n
\nA pre-trial hearing is scheduled to take place on 15 September.<\/p>\n
\nNick was diagnosed with schizophrenia and had a history of drug addiction at the time of his parents\u2019 murders. <\/p>\n
\nIt has also been reported he had previously damaged his mother and father\u2019s mansion during what was described as a methamphetamine-fuelled incident.<\/p>\n
\nNick is said to have argued with Rob and Michele at Conan O\u2019Brien\u2019s home the day before they were slaughtered.<\/p>\n
\nSources previously told the New York Post Nick had \u201cfreaked out\u201d, with Rob reportedly telling guests he was \u201cscared\u201d by his son\u2019s \u201cdeteriorating\u201d mental state.<\/p>\n
\nAfter entering a plea of not guilty in February, Nick requested access to his reported $1.5 million trust fund to pay his legal fees while awaiting trial.<\/p>\n
