Tom Holland<\/strong><\/a> is opening up in more detail about his path to getting sober, during a new interview on Jay Shetty<\/strong><\/a>‘s podcast.<\/p>\n The 27-year-old actor revealed just a few months ago that he was going on one year of sobriety<\/a>, after wrapping up filming on his most recent project, Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room<\/em>.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more…<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Speaking with Jay<\/strong>, Tom <\/strong>shared that he never realized that he had a problem with alcohol until he couldn’t stop thinking about drinking.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t one day wake up and say I\u2019m giving up drinking,” he shared, saying that like “many Brits had, had a very, very boozy December, Christmas time I was on vacation, I was drinking a lot, and I\u2019ve always been able to drink a lot…I decided to just give up for January.”<\/p>\n Tom <\/strong>fully committed to a dry January, and it’s then when he figured out that there was a dependence on drinking he didn’t know he had.<\/p>\n “All I could think about was having a drink. That\u2019s all I could think about,\u201d he said. “I was waking up thinking about it. I was checking the clock, when\u2019s at 12pm? And it just really scared me. I just was like, wow. Maybe. Maybe I have a little bit of an alcohol thing. So I sort of decided to punish myself and say, I\u2019ll do February as well. I\u2019ll do two months off.”<\/p>\n Tom <\/strong>then decided to extend his experiment more. <\/p>\n “If I can do two months off, then I can prove to myself that I don\u2019t have a problem. Two months go by and I was still really struggling. I felt like I couldn\u2019t be social,\u201d he admitted, adding that the culture around drinking in the UK was hard for him. “I felt like I couldn\u2019t go to the pub and have a lime soda. I couldn\u2019t go out for dinner. I was really, really struggling and I started to really worry that maybe I had an alcohol problem.”<\/p>\n Tom <\/strong>made it to six months of sobriety, and he was a bit stunned that he was “the happiest I would ever been in my life. I could sleep better. I could handle problems better, things that would go wrong on set, that would normally set me off, I could take in my stride. I had so much, such better mental clarity. I felt healthier, I felt fitter.”<\/p>\n That also made him question just why he was “so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?”<\/p>\n Watch the full conversation below:<\/p>\n Tom <\/strong>isn’t the only star<\/a> who has opened up about their sobriety this week.<\/p>\n
