Although she was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-body\/news\/molly-sims-was-called-too-fat-at-the-start-of-modeling-career\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told early<\/a> on that she didn\u2019t fit the modeling industry\u2019s narrow body ideal, the Kentucky native, 53, found success during the height of the \u201cheroin chic\u201d era, gracing the coveted pages of fashion magazines like French <em>Vogue<\/em> and landing deals with major brands, including Old Navy and CoverGirl. She proved she was more than just a pretty face, hosting MTV\u2019s <em>House of Styl<\/em>e before landing a lead role on the hit NBC series<em> Las Vegas<\/em> for its five-season run.<\/p>\n<p>Everything she\u2019s accomplished has happened on her own timeline, both professionally and personally. She married film exec <strong>Scott<\/strong> <strong>Stuber<\/strong> in 2011 and welcomed her first child, son Brooks, at age 39. (She and Stuber, 57, are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/pictures\/molly-sims-relatable-parenting-quotes-while-raising-3-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also parents<\/a> to daughter Scarlett, 11, and son Grey, 9.) \u201cI had kids later in life. [I was] told [I] might not find [my] person and that I was going to be too old to have children,\u201d Sims tells <em>Us<\/em>. \u201cWe get a lot tossed at us, and it feeds into feeling stuck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She launched her popular podcast, \u2018Lipstick on the Rim\u2019, in 2021 and debuted her<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yisebeauty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Y<em>I<\/em>SE Beauty<\/a> line two years later. \u201cAge can\u2019t define your ambitions,\u201d says Sims, who appeared in the 2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-body\/pictures\/si-swimsuit-2026-issue-includes-bethenny-frankel-and-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue<\/em> <\/a>(wearing a string bikini!) and slayed its star-studded runway show in May. \u201cWe put a lot of labels on Gen Alpha, Gen Z, Gen X, and I wish women who are 45-plus would embrace where they are,\u201d she adds. \u201cWe tend to look backwards or forwards, but [it\u2019s about] enjoying the moment and knowing you have a new chapter at any age.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>It sounds like you\u2019re in an amazing chapter of your life.<\/strong><br \/>We think that first chapter is everything. And then you realize [that\u2019s not the case], especially with my story and journey from [growing up in] Murray, Kentucky, to [studying pre-law at] Vanderbilt University to modeling to <em>Sports Illustrated<\/em>. Oh boy, there\u2019s [always] a lot more chapters.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption \">\n<div class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\" style=\"padding-bottom:133.3%;\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"credit\">MOLLY SIMS COURTESY OF COLIENA RENTMEESTER<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>How would you describe this one?<\/strong><br \/>It\u2019s a great time in my life because of all the things I\u2019ve gone through \u2014 the rejection and years of noes turning into yeses. I\u2019m not as worried now. Motherhood, becoming a founder, being in front of people doing live shows [built up my resilience].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Many women of a certain age go through a bit of an identity crisis. Did you ever go through that?<\/strong><br \/>In my late 30s, early 40s, I had just met my prince, and I was this \u201cno makeup\u201d model and then I gained 86 pounds [while pregnant with Brooks] and had massive hyperpigmentation and melasma. [But] I knew who I was at that point. All the years of living in Europe, I learned. I went to school, and I learned French and [how to] dress. When you have kids and you\u2019re in charge of, like, three souls, that\u2019s an added thing. But there\u2019s no straight line. My career path has never been [a] straight [line], ever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That\u2019s what makes it fun.<\/strong><br \/>I\u2019m like a cat. I have a lot of lives. When someone tells me no, it lights a fire. Early in my modeling, I was told I was too fat, too thin, too blonde, too tall, too short. I didn\u2019t know my nose was crooked until I was 21. There\u2019s not a lot that can ruffle my feathers [now].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did the scrutiny ever bother you?<\/strong><br \/>It was devastating. I went from Vanderbilt with my sorority sisters, where you\u2019re dipping your fries in a Wendy\u2019s Frosty and you think nothing of it. I grew up in a very small [town]. I came in during a difficult era called \u201cheroin chic.\u201d [The look] was about 20 pounds underweight and very goth. I was from a completely different world, and also the business had changed. After recently making headlines for revealing that she was considered \u201ctoo fat\u201d to model in the \u201990s, Sims, 50, exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about how she\u2019s making sure her kids aren\u2019t subjected to that same experience. \u201cBody positivity is [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-body\/news\/molly-sims-my-hot-body-does-not-come-naturally-20112312\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you try<\/a> any extreme measures to fit in?<\/strong><br \/>I\u2019ve done every diet \u2014 the grapefruit diet, Atkins. There\u2019s not one thing I didn\u2019t do. The amount of rice cakes one could consume was daunting; [everything was] low-fat and fat-free. [Growing up,] my mother never talked about weight. Then to have your entire world [based on] what you look like\u2026 modeling was incredible for me \u2014 the travel, the exposure, I would not be where I am without it \u2014 but it was a lot to navigate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It must\u2019ve been tough to stay grounded.<\/strong><br \/>I can\u2019t imagine someone starting modeling at 14. I went to Vanderbilt for two years, I went to my prom and had two very solid parents. She was [there] in some of my lowest moments, trying to deal with the weight [stuff]. I was told that I was never going to make it, that I was never going to be a model.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was it like being so young and out of your element?<\/strong><br \/>I was living in Camden [in London]. I was so lonely. I had a Murphy bed. It was so bad. I met a girl, and I moved in with her and two firemen for two years. She dated one fireman, and I dated the other because that\u2019s what you did. It was hard times; you couldn\u2019t live in New York because you couldn\u2019t get the tear sheets. When you go to Europe, you can do Greece, Spain, France and there\u2019s so many more opportunities to build a portfolio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You were determined.<\/strong><br \/>I wasn\u2019t the prettiest or the thinnest, but I was a worker. I could grind. I\u2019d [take the] Concorde and start working in Paris in the morning and then New York in the afternoon. It was crazy. They were like, \u201cWe want you to meet this woman from<em> Sports Illustrated<\/em>,\u201d and then they said, \u201cThere\u2019s this thing [called]<em> House of Style<\/em>.\u201d [There was also] CoverGirl. It all changed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>That\u2019s when it started clicking?<\/strong><br \/>I\u2018d say, \u201cOnly at Old Navy\u201d [in commercials], and having those four words, for some reason they thought I could talk [on TV]. I took a month off for an acting intensive in Europe and L.A. I took, like, 77 red-eyes over two years, and then I auditioned for <em>Las Vegas<\/em> to play <strong>Jimmy Caan<\/strong>\u2019s daughter, and they were like, \u201cDon\u2019t worry, it\u2019s never going to go [on the air], just do the audition for the pilot.\u201d Then the pilot gets picked up and they tell me I\u2019m recurring. Then [they say], \u201cThey want you as a series regular.\u201d Every time I\u2019m like, \u201cI can\u2019t do this,\u201d [people are like,] \u201cJust do it for a little while.\u201d It lasted almost five years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You came up with models like Tyra Banks and Rebecca Romijn. Did you guys all have a bond?<\/strong><br \/>The through line with all of us is that we worked really hard. We were good girls. We were like, \u201cIs this really happening?\u201d Most of the girls didn\u2019t just stay in modeling; they wanted to expand. The best thing about me is that I\u2019m curious. My publicist will be like, \u201cOh, I\u2019ve got this great opportunity,\u201d and then say, \u201cOh, someone else got it.\u201d You can\u2019t fully count on [things] in my business. [It\u2019s like the 2025 movie] <em>Jay Kelly<\/em>, we always feel like it\u2019s going to be over, or, now even more, [that] you\u2019re going to be canceled. It\u2019s a lot of pressure. Because my success did not come overnight, I have a very thick skin. I also don\u2019t look at it like one thing will define me. If a movie doesn\u2019t work, if a product doesn\u2019t work, [I\u2019m] moving on. This is where my friends sometimes struggle. You [can] go down, but you can\u2019t stay down. You have to come back up. You have to figure it out. There\u2019s nothing worse in life than being in neutral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell <em>Us<\/em> about your husband, Scott.<\/strong><br \/>When I met [him], I was like, \u201cYou\u2019re an executive, you wear a suit.\u201d That was a little odd. I am trying to look the best [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>How did you guys meet?<\/strong><br \/>My best friend was trying to get into a Golden Globes party at the Sunset Tower. I got her in, and [then I] was like, \u201cI\u2019m leaving. I\u2019m so tired.\u201d I was standing by the bathroom [and] he was standing there, and you know, in Hollywood, you\u2019re always like, \u201cHow\u2019s it going? Everything\u2019s amazing,\u201d even though it could be s**t. I don\u2019t know if I said, \u201cCall my agent,\u201d or whatever. He said, \u201cI have a lot going on, what are you doing?\u201d Sure enough, [my agent] called me, and she\u2019s like, \u201cScott Stuber wants a meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>So you went on a date? <\/strong><br \/>We ended up meeting, then he was in something, and I was getting out of something. I had gotten dumped really badly, and then I was in a really torturous relationship for, like, three and a half years. I needed to figure out who I was. So he asked me out for an entire year. He was persistent, and then, you know, [there were some] fun actor boys during that time, [but Scott] was like, \u201cJust one drink,\u201d and I said, \u201cOK,\u201d and that was it. Three babies later [here we are]\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Had you always <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/news\/molly-sims-kids-want-her-to-have-another-baby-so-bad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wanted children<\/a>? <\/strong><br \/>When I was shooting<em> Las Vegas<\/em> and playing pregnant, something hit me. I never wanted children really young. But then [around age] 35, I woke up and was like, \u201cI want a family.\u201d I remember seeing <strong>Heidi<\/strong> [<strong>Klum<\/strong>] on every cover, and I was so jealous. Not about the cover. I was like, \u201cShe\u2019s married and has three or four kids,\u201d and that\u2019s when it set in. He was like, \u201cMaybe we need a sperm donor?\u201d I was like, \u201cWhat? Do you see this face? Do you not believe that I\u2019m gonna meet someone?\u201d We still laugh about it. He told me I could freeze my eggs but that freezing embryos was the way to go. I [was] 35 and I said I\u2019d give myself until 37. I had met Stuber, and we were a year into dating, and I got into [a big] argument with my publicist. I was like, \u201cI\u2019m gonna tell him, like, I\u2019m doing it,\u201d and she was like, \u201cHe\u2019ll break up with you.\u201d I said, \u201cIf he\u2019s gonna break up with me, then I can\u2019t marry him anyway.\u201d<em> [The pair froze their embryos.]<\/em> It was a hard and awkward conversation, but I did it, and we never needed them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You were ready to go ahead with it alone if needed.<\/strong><br \/>With or without someone, I knew I wanted a family. My whole career, everything came a little later, so I let it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You wed almost 15 years ago. What\u2019s your secret to a happy marriage?<\/strong><br \/>We\u2019re very good together. We look at money the same way, we look at raising our children the same way. I\u2019m faster with decisions. No two people are at the same [place] every year. Things might be good for one in business, and then it goes the other way. I wanted him to come off the road of being a producer; we were almost three babies in [and he was] traveling for three or six months [at a time]. How are you feeling about your appearance now?<\/strong><br \/>I\u2019m not trying to look like I\u2019m 20, which I think makes a huge difference. I\u2019m just trying to look the best I can at every age. I don\u2019t want to be skinny; I want to be healthy. That\u2019s a big mind shift. I don\u2019t want to be skinny-fat. I\u2019m the girl who [wouldn\u2019t pick up the] two-pound weight at SoulCycle. Now I do HIIT. I lift weights. I\u2019m back to Pilates, and I do Tracy Anderson. Also the difference between me at 20 and me at 53 is that I have an incredible tailor. So if I\u2019m a size 12 or I\u2019m size 4, it doesn\u2019t matter. That\u2019s my secret weapon. Do I still have my hang-ups? Of course. That doesn\u2019t just go away. I\u2019m super broad, and I hate my shoulders and my arms because I was told my entire life, \u201cYou\u2019re too muscular.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What about your face and skin?<\/strong><br \/>I love microneedling with radiofrequency, and I believe in PRP for healing and repair. I also believe in acupuncture and in alcohol \u2014 you have to live your life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tell <em>Us<\/em> more about Y<em>I<\/em>SE.<br \/><\/strong>Y<em>I<\/em>SE\u00a0really did come out of a problem with having real hyperpigmentation. I was doing all these crazy things with a dermatologist, [like] hydroquinone, and then I decided to take a year off of doing anything to my skin to figure it out. My products are so good because they don\u2019t just do one thing. It took me four years to create a moisturizer. I made Wide Awake [eye cream]. It depuffs, gives you a little bit of color correcting and you\u2019re getting eye benefits for fine lines and wrinkles. Sometimes I think Y<em>I<\/em>SE is for the woman who\u2019s too busy for skincare, you know? We really think about and look at how women live.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There seems to be less gatekeeping about beauty maintenance in Hollywood these days.<\/strong><br \/>Early on, other models would help you. Like, \u201cI\u2019m getting shots in my ass,\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m only going to drink grapefruit juice.\u201d Hollywood people would say, \u201cI just drink a lot of water, and I slept eight hours.\u201d I\u2019m like, \u201cNo, you f**king didn\u2019t.\u201d I [recently] went to dinner in the Hamptons, and all we did was talk about everybody\u2019s facelift. We\u2019re like, \u201cShe looks amazing. She did the upper lip, the lower. She did the CO2.\u201d It\u2019s refreshing for a woman in Kentucky or Ohio to know that it\u2019s not just drinking water and getting a good night\u2019s sleep. How did you gear up for that?<\/strong><br \/>The fact that I said yes was a miracle of God. I\u2019ve always been disciplined, but people in the public eye have that added goal because they\u2019re photographed. So it kind of helped me, especially with my fitness. Am I sick of protein? I\u2019m so sick of chicken, but I still do my shakes and my creatine. Does it work? I don\u2019t know. Maybe! I looked at getting ready in a different way. I\u2019m at a different time in my life.
