Colombian influencer Sofia Murillo<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s death is under investigation after she was killed in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old and her mother, Wendy Manrique<\/strong>, and grandmother Rocio Cubillos<\/strong> were inside a four-seat helicopter near the scenic outlook Vista Chinesa on August 8 when the aircraft reportedly crashed into a wooded area. The helicopter, which was with local tour agency Voo Panor\u00e2mico, reportedly exploded. Pilot Alessandro Rocha<\/strong> also died in the accident.<\/p>\n

After the incident, Murillo\u2019s uncle Victor Manrique<\/strong> told the local outlet that he was on vacation in Brazil with Murillo, Manrique and Cubillos, as well as his wife and their 15-year-old daughter. He explained that the family had booked a 20-minute helicopter ride to see the Christ the Redeemer statue, with the three women boarding the initial flight. The other three family members reportedly waited in the hangar for the second aircraft.<\/p>\n

CNN Brasil reported that Rio de Janeiro\u2019s Civil Police and Brazilian Air Force have opened investigations into the incident.<\/a><\/p>\n

What Have Authorities Said About the Crash Leading to Influencer Sofia Murillo\u2019s Death?<\/h2>\n

After the crash, fire reportedly spread throughout the wooded hillside. Military personnel were reportedly called to the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest challenge for the teams right now is access, both to enter and exit the site. The aircraft crashed in a very steep, wooded area with precipitous cliffs, where it is only possible to work using rope techniques and safety equipment,\u201d Lieutenant Colonel F\u00e1bio Contreiras told g1 in a statement, translated from Portuguese to English. \u201cWhen we arrived, in addition to the helicopter, there was also a fire caused by the explosion of the aircraft\u2019s fuel. That fire has now been completely extinguished.\u201d<\/p>\n
