Dylan Sprouse<\/strong><\/a> is revealing what led to him quitting smoking. <\/p>\n

The 34-year-old actor and former child star recently made an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat<\/a><\/em> podcast and shared the “kind of legendary story” of why he quit cigarettes.<\/p>\n

Dylan <\/strong>shared that he was out to dinner with his wife, Barbara Palvin<\/strong><\/a>, at celebrity hotspot Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles when he went outside to smoke and was greeted by a famous director, which was the only time, he says, that he was ever starstruck in his life. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m at Chateau Marmont. Barbara<\/strong> and I are there with some friends, and we’re eating dinner,\u201d he recalls. \u201cBehind me, I hear a voice which I just know is David Lynch<\/strong><\/a>. I’m a massive David Lynch<\/strong> fan. And I hear his like typical nasally voice, like he’s talking with someone, and I literally like froze.<\/p>\n

His wife confirmed that it was indeed David<\/strong>, and “She was like, \u2018Why don’t you just go up and say hi?\u2019 I want to see him like the great white buffalo like out in the wild. I don’t want to interrupt him.” If anything, it was kind of Camera Duels<\/a>-esque, but I wasn’t going to ask for a picture. I was like, ‘No, I just like, I love this guy, but I’m freaking out. And I turn around and sure enough, it’s David Lynch<\/strong> and he’s sitting across from Laura Dern<\/strong><\/a>.”<\/p>\n

“I was smoking cigarettes at the time, and I was like, ‘F-ck, I need to go get a cigarette.’ And [Barbara<\/strong>]’s like, ‘I think you should just go up and say hi to him.’ And I was like, ‘No, I really don’t want to. I’m just going to go have a cigarette.’”<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m out there and I go to light up my cigarette, and like a minute later, David Lynch<\/strong> walks into the smoking section,\u201d Dylan<\/strong> continued. \u201cAnd he goes, \u2018Excuse me, young man, do you happen to have a cigarette?\u2019 And I was like, ‘Yes.’ Gave him the cigarette and he’s like, ‘Do you happen to have a light?’” <\/p>\n

Dylan<\/strong> says he lit the cigarette for the director. “He goes, ‘Thank you very much,’” and he went over to the corner to sit down and smoke. Then, Laura<\/strong> walks out and sits with him. <\/p>\n

“She goes, ‘Do you mind if I?’ And he goes, ‘Sure.’ And he pulls out of his pocket, a fresh pack of cigarettes, hands her one. She’s like, ‘Can you light it for me?’ He goes, ‘Yep.’ He lights a cigarette for her,” he continues. “I was like, ‘What?’”<\/p>\n

But it’s what happened next that made Dylan<\/strong> want to quit.<\/p>\n

“They finish smoking and I’m thinking about it the whole time. And then, you know, they get up and David<\/strong> walks out and he goes, ‘I just want to tell you, you’re very polite. Thank you.’ And he walked out.” <\/p>\n

“It made me want to quit smoking. And I’ll tell you why,” Dylan<\/strong> says. “Because I’ll never have a better cigarette than that in my entire life. He gave me the most elegant understanding of how to approach someone that’s fangirling over you possible.”<\/p>\n

When asked if he thought David<\/strong> noticed Dylan<\/strong> was fangirling, he said, “I think he’s one of the smartest guys and I think he noticed and he knew. That’s why he had a fresh pack of cigarettes. He had a he had a lighter… I was elated. And he gave me a story that is better than any picture, any autograph, anything. He gave me what I’m telling you now. And to this day, I mean, I think it’s still one of the most eloquent, tasteful ways of doing that for someone that you know is a fan of you.” <\/p>\n
