Stockard Channing<\/strong><\/a> is making rare comments about her current life as a “recluse.”<\/p>\n

The beloved 82-year-old actress, who will be seen in Practical Magic 2<\/em> this year, moved to London in 2019 after the death of her partner Daniel Gillham<\/strong> back in 2014. <\/p>\n

In a new essay that she wrote for the UK’s Sunday Times<\/a><\/em>, Stockard<\/strong> opened up about moving forward with her life without her longtime love. <\/p>\n

Stockard Channing moved from Maine to London in 2019<\/h3>\n

She wrote in the essay, “Since just before Covid I\u2019ve been living in London. My partner, Daniel, died in 2014 and it was more devastating than I realized; it had a lag effect. The pattern of my life shifted, so I shifted my life from Maine.”<\/p>\n

Stockard<\/strong> noted that the move “vaguely coincided with Trump getting elected and the way politics has changed in the US.”<\/p>\n

Stockard<\/strong> is happy with her solo life these days.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve lived alone since I lost Daniel and I\u2019m happy being a recluse. I was married four times before Daniel and they all represent epochs of me,” she wrote. “Children were thought about and, yeah, I think about them now because it\u2019d be great to have someone taking care of me. But hey, children can be just as selfish as everybody else out there.”<\/p>\n

What Stockard does each day…<\/h3>\n

“Lunch is my first meal of the day and I can follow a recipe, but if my ramen doesn\u2019t work out I give it to the dog… In the evening I cook or make a salad,” she said about her food for the day.<\/p>\n

Stockard<\/strong> is not worried about her appearance. She wrote, “If I\u2019m leaving the apartment I comb my hair, but I don\u2019t have a wardrobe of designer outfits. Well, I do, but they\u2019re all from the Eighties and Nineties. Do I care how I look? Most actors do \u2014 although part of your job is not being self-conscious. But I\u2019ve never considered myself as beautiful. And I\u2019m not a celebrity ‘tart.’ I\u2019m just me, take it or leave it.”<\/p>\n

“Pottering is my meditation; moving things from that pile to that pile. I may read and fall asleep around 11. If I can\u2019t sleep, it\u2019s probably just my subconscious clearing out stuff. Do I ever feel anxious? Sure, but that\u2019s the price you pay for getting rid of the garbage,” she said. <\/p>\n

Stockard<\/strong> made a rare public appearance in 2025<\/a> while starring in a London stage play.<\/p>\n
