Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/strong><\/a> is sharing a rare update on her personal life. <\/p>\n

The 36-year-old New York state representative took to her Instagram story over the weekend to “share more” with her followers and supporters. <\/p>\n

In her update, she reveals she will start the process to freeze her eggs.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey everyone, it\u2019s been a minute since I\u2019ve posted to stories, but I think it\u2019s a good time to kind of dive back in again \u2014 it\u2019s August recess and I think it\u2019s good for you all to hear a little bit more from me directly,\u201d she started out in her videos, via Us Weekly<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to share with you all a decision that is very personal that I have made that has taken me time to consider, weigh and save up for,\u201d AOC<\/strong> continued. \u201cAnd it is of a sensitive matter and a personal matter and usually I keep my private life quite private, but I have made the decision to start freezing my eggs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alexandria<\/strong> shared that she plans to document her journey on social media, and her decision to freeze her eggs came in part due to constant speculation that she could be the frontrunner for the Democratic nominee for president. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe media will run up and ask a question like, \u2018Are you going to run for this? or, \u2018Are you going to run for that?\u2019 And it\u2019s almost through this very two-dimensional craven understanding or ambitious understanding of power,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen I think a lot of us actually approach these considerations or these decisions through the larger context of our lives as whole human beings and what is happening in our lives as whole human beings.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also acknowledges there is “strangely” a “political risk” to her sharing her journey.<\/p>\n

<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cPeople don\u2019t go down those rabbit holes and fixate on them for men in terms of their decision the way they do for women,\u201d AOC<\/strong> said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m not here to, like, talk about what\u2019s fair or unfair in this context \u2014 this is just the world that we live in today, and so I\u2019m aware that just by me choosing to not keep this private there may be a consequence.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you know what, I\u2019m OK with that. This is a choice that I am making to feel more in control of my life and if people want to make assumptions about my decision, let them make those assumptions \u2013 I feel empowered to make this choice,” she continued. “I think it\u2019s a very privileged position that I\u2019ve been able to be able to make. And it\u2019s also a result of, I think, changes in technology that have also made it more financially accessible.\u201d<\/p>\n

AOC<\/strong> revealed that she took her first shot that morning, on August 8th. <\/p>\n

If you didn’t know, Alexandria<\/strong> is in a relationship with her longtime partner, marketing professional Riley Roberts<\/strong>, and the couple got engaged<\/a> back in 2022!<\/p>\n
