Andrew Lloyd Webber<\/strong><\/a> is sending a message to the cast and crew of CATS: The Jellicle Ball<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

The 78-year-old EGOT-winning composer took to Instagram on Saturday morning (August 8), just hours before the Broadway production puts on its final performance<\/a>. <\/p>\n

“I’m gutted that the wonderful Broadway production of CATS: The Jellicle Ball is closing today,” he wrote<\/a>. “I’m immensely proud to have been a part of an incredibly daring production whose cast and creative team broke new ground on Broadway and gave 17 actors their Broadway debut.” <\/p>\n

He then called out the rising costs of putting on a Broadway show.<\/p>\n

“Maybe the show’s closing just might be remembered as the moment that caused everyone involved with Broadway to come to their senses and address the unsustainable cost of producing and running any new show on The Great White Way, let alone daring new work,” Andrew<\/strong> shared. “My undying thanks to the producers and investors and everyone who believed in Jellicle Cats. I won’t forget you.” <\/p>\n

CATS: The Jellicle Ball <\/em>opened on Broadway back in April<\/a>, with Andrew<\/strong> in attendance, after a successful off-Broadway run. <\/p>\n

In June, the cast of the musical hit the stage for a performance during the 2026 Tony Awards<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, where the production picked up three awards – Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Costume Design of a Musical for Qween Jean<\/strong>, who made Tonys history<\/a> with her win. <\/p>\n
