The Michael Jackson<\/strong><\/a> biopic Michael<\/strong><\/a><\/em> was such a big hit that a sequel was quickly ordered and some of it has already been filmed!<\/p>\n

Michael<\/strong>\u2018s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson<\/strong><\/a> plays him in the movie and received tons of acclaim for his performance. Some of the footage that he shot for the first movie, but wasn’t used, is going to be included in the sequel, according to Lionsgate Studios Motion Picture Chair Adam Fogelson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We learned some details about the movie during an earnings call<\/a> in May 2026 and more details were unveiled during the August 2026 earnings call. <\/p>\n

Possible release date revealed<\/h3>\n

Fogelson<\/strong> says Michael 2<\/em> will be released in theaters at the end of 2027 or in the first half of 2028. <\/p>\n

The movie will start production at \u201cthe end of this year or early next.\u201d<\/p>\n

A budget is not known yet<\/h3>\n

\u201cWe do have a number of sequences, particularly some big musical sequences, that were shot previously, that are almost sure to be incorporated but we are mostly focused right now on how to make sure we can deliver, at the right price, the biggest, best sequel,\u201d Fogelson <\/strong>said (via Variety<\/a><\/em>). \u201cThat is what the audience is going to want and deserve after the experience we gave them the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n
