As a result, the carrier is changing its complimentary upgrade policy.<\/p>\n<p>On certain domestic routes, the airline will limit business-class upgrades for some AAdvantage elite status members<\/p>\n<p>Beginning Aug. 25, if you&#8217;re booked in economy, you can get upgraded to a premium economy seat rather than a lie-flat, business-class seat, as was previously offered.<\/p>\n<p>To be fair, this move will affect a relatively small number of routes: The changes will apply to domestic flights that offer premium economy.<\/p>\n<p>But if you regularly fly American coast-to-coast or to Hawaii, you&#8217;ll likely find it more challenging to get into business class once the changes take effect.<\/p>\n<p>Most notably? SEAN CUDAHY\/THE POINTS GUY<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Who will this change affect?<\/h3>\n<p>This move will likely sting for AAdvantage elite members who regularly take advantage of business-class upgrades on long flights to and from Hawaii, or for flyers who regularly criss-cross the country and like the access to a business-class seat.<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade queue for premium economy will work the same as it does now, with AAdvantage members cleared based on factors such as status and their rolling 12-month Loyalty Point tally.<\/p>\n<h3>What&#8217;s not changing?<\/h3>\n<p>Again, these changes apply only to domestic flights that offer premium economy as an officially marketed cabin.<\/p>\n<p>That means American&#8217;s domestic first-class upgrades are unchanged. The first &#8220;trick&#8221; will (eventually) go away. The second is here to stay.<\/p>\n<h3>Book a flight on the A321T<\/h3>\n<p>A handful of American&#8217;s older Airbus A321Ts are still flying.
