Scarlett Johansson has reflected on Hollywood beauty standards<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old actress – who first found fame as a child – believes Hollywood’s beauty standards have changed markedly over the last 20 years.<\/p>\n
Appearing on Good Housekeeping\u2019s Home in Five series, Scarlett reflected: “Actors are able to express their personal style on the red carpet much more than they ever did before.”<\/p>\n
The Jurassic World Rebirth star recalled feeling under intense pressure to look a certain way during her younger years.<\/p>\n

She said: “There was such a standard on how movies stars were supposed to look. It was unachievable and it didn\u2019t allow for personal style in the same way [it does now].”<\/p>\n
\nThe Oscar-nominated star observed that actors and actresses now feel much more comfortable wearing casual attire in public.<\/p>\n
\nScarlett – who is one of the highest-grossing film stars of all time – said: “Now at the airport or on the train, you see people wearing pimple patches and eye masks and whatever they want to feel confident.”<\/p>\n
\nScarlett previously admitted to feeling typecast as a sex symbol during her younger years.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress is one of the biggest names in Hollywood – but Scarlett felt she was only valued for her “desirability” during her early days in the movie business.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to The Sunday Times newspaper about her early days in the movie business, Scarlett explained: “When I was younger, a lot of the roles I was offered, or I went for, had their ambitions or character arcs revolving around their own desirability, or the male gaze, or a male-centred story.”<\/p>\n
\nScarlett has overcome the issue by rejecting “unfulfilling” roles and patiently waiting for the right opportunities to come her way.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress – who is married to comedy star Colin Jost – said: “I just waited. <\/p>\n
\n“I had to become comfortable with the idea that it could take some time. Which is hard when you’re a young actor, but at that time I didn’t have any children.”<\/p>\n
