Gina Rodriguez has opened up about her struggles<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old star gave birth to her daughter, Lucille, last year, and Gina has now opened up about her experience of postpartum depression.<\/p>\n
The brunette beauty – who also has a son called Charlie with Joe LoCicero, her husband – told Us Weekly: “I don\u2019t know what it was. How could I have known?<\/p>\n
“I don\u2019t know what it was, but they were very different journeys, and it was my village that showed up that made it so much easier because \u2026 I needed help, but I wasn\u2019t afraid to ask for it.”<\/p>\n

Gina explained that she’s now in a much better from of mind.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: “I thankfully feel like I\u2019m out of that space. My daughter\u2019s nine months old [now].<\/p>\n
\n“Looking back, I don\u2019t even know what it was, but it was the people that helped me that I remember most.”<\/p>\n
\nGina also appreciates the support she received from her husband.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress explained: “What\u2019s really wonderful is that I have this incredible partner who has gone on his own mental health journey for the past 10 years that we\u2019ve been together.<\/p>\n
\n“When I was going through my postpartum [journey], he had said to me, \u2018Hi, my love, I think we need to get you a little bit more help,\u2019 and not in the [way] like, \u2018There\u2019s something wrong with you, but there are ways in which I can support you, and then there are ways that I am not the best person to do this.\u2019 And that\u2019s when he was like, \u2018I\u2019d love to get somebody that you can talk to.\u2019”<\/p>\n
\nJoe ensured that Gina had all of the support she needed.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress said: “I have a partner [who] is so cognizant of what he is, what he can do and what he cannot do, and has no embarrassment or no, like, emasculation about the fact that like there are ways in which I can contribute and there are ways in which I need to have other people help.<\/p>\n
\n“He got me a binding ceremony, and he got me women around me [who] can validate my experience and birthing people who could validate my experience that he knew he couldn\u2019t do, and nor was he trying to pretend like he could.”<\/p>\n
