Barbie 2<\/em> has hit a major roadblock.<\/p>\n

People have been expecting a sequel to the 2023 mega-hit for a while now, especially since the Greta Gerwig<\/strong><\/a>-directed film earned more than $1.4 billion at the box office in addition to earning eight Oscar nominations. <\/p>\n

But a new report from The New York Times<\/a><\/em> suggests the issue is stemming from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav<\/strong> is hesitant to give stars Margot Robbie<\/strong><\/a> and Ryan Gosling<\/strong><\/a> the kind of deals they’re after for a sequel, along with profit participation.<\/p>\n

Ryan<\/strong> is reportedly looking for a $20 million pay raise. He received a best supporting nom for his role as Ken. <\/p>\n

Warner Bros. did not require the stars of Barbie<\/em> to commit to any sequels, meaning they have to re-negotiate deals for any future films. <\/p>\n

The New York Times <\/em>also reports that Greta<\/strong> and her writing partner and husband Noah Baumbach<\/strong><\/a> have an idea for Barbie 2<\/em>, but are unwilling to share it until the deals are finalized. <\/p>\n

In a statement, Warner Bros. Pam Abdy<\/strong> and Michael De Luca<\/strong> said, \u201cWe have a rights deal with Mattel in place and have made a series of big offers to try and finalize deals to make the next Barbie<\/em> film. Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach an agreement thus far.\u201d<\/p>\n

If the deal isn’t in place soon, the rights will revert to Mattel in December, meaning Mattel would have to redevelop the IP for a new movie. They would have to get a new cast and and filmmaker.<\/p>\n
