Shoppers ages 14 to 29 who grew up online are increasingly making their way <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/entertainment\/living\/article316700262.html?utm_source=mcc&amp;utm_medium=iacontcard&amp;utm_campaign=thtest&amp;utm_content=top&amp;cid=cmt_con_iacta-top_mcc-thtest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back to physical stores<\/a>, and retailers from Urban Outfitters to Coach are racing to catch up.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"why-are-gen-z-shoppers-going-back-to-malls-in-2026\">Why Are Gen Z Shoppers Going Back to Malls in 2026?<\/h2>\n<p>Gen Z shoppers are returning to malls for immersive experiences, exclusive merchandise, time offline and social connection with friends, according to reporting from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2026\/03\/26\/gen-z-retail-shopping-malls-resurgence\/89233505007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA TODAY<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wxyz.com\/news\/voices\/gen-z-is-going-to-the-mall-and-not-just-to-shop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WXYZ Detroit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elizabeth Lafontaine<\/strong>, director of research at Placer.ai, told USA TODAY that \u201cthe resurgence of the mall category directly correlates with Gen Z shoppers\u2019 desire for community and in-person connection.\u201d <strong>Tyler Hartman<\/strong>, 20, told WXYZ Detroit that mall trips have become a full outing. \u201cYou can kind of make a day out of it, you can go for a couple hours, get something to eat, maybe get a matcha or a coffee,\u201d he said. <strong>Annabelle Saco<\/strong>, 24, of Bloomfield, Michigan, put it more bluntly to USA TODAY. \u201cThe mall is an experience,\u201d she said. \u201cYou go there and you see all different kinds of people and it\u2019s just getting out of your isolation in your home.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"which-gen-z-brands-are-leading-the-mall-comeback\">Which Gen Z Brands Are Leading the Mall Comeback?<\/h2>\n<p>Urban Outfitters, Edikted and Coach are three of the Gen Z brands drawing the most attention as young shoppers head back into stores.<\/p>\n<p>All three are investing heavily in physical retail built around Gen Z tastes. Urban Outfitters is rolling out a new Gen Z-focused store format to seven more U.S. locations this year, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbanoutfitters.com\/uo-new-store-concept-newsroom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brand\u2019s press release<\/a>. Edikted, the TikTok-viral fashion label, doubled its physical footprint in 2025 and plans 30 to 40 flagship locations nationwide, CEO <strong>Dedy Schwartzberg<\/strong> told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.modernretail.co\/operations\/tiktok-viral-brand-edikted-is-doubling-its-retail-footprint-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modern Retail<\/a>. Coach opened four Coach Coffee Shop locations in 2025, pairing coffee and sweet treats with handbag browsing. \u201cSince Covid, particularly for this younger generation, there\u2019s a return to in real life shopping and malls and outlets are part of that equation,\u201d Coach CEO <strong>Todd Kahn<\/strong> said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/29\/coach-coffee-shops-build-on-success-with-gen-z.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNBC interview<\/a>. \u201cThey see the TikTok image. They see what they want. They\u2019re like, \u2018I want to go get that.\u2019\u201d <strong>Erin Keel<\/strong>, a 26-year-old in Los Angeles, told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instyle.com\/gen-z-loves-coach-8709256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">InStyle<\/a><\/em>, \u201cThis is not the Coach that I\u2019d known previously.
