Angela Bassett<\/a><\/strong> is finally getting her Oscar<\/a>, and Mel Brooks<\/a><\/strong> is picking up another gold statute.<\/p>\n Black Panther<\/em> star Bassett, 64, and Brooks, 96, the comedic legend behind Blazing Saddles<\/em> and Young Frankenstein<\/em>, will be granted honorary Oscars by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, it was announced Monday<\/a> (Jun. 26, 2023).<\/p>\n Film editor Carol Littleton<\/strong> (E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial<\/em>) will also receive an honorary Oscar. And the Sundance Institute\u2019s Michelle Satter<\/strong> will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. The four Oscar statuettes will be presented at the Governors Awards event on Nov. 18.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Academy\u2019s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans,\u201d Academy President Janet Yang said in a statement.<\/p>\n Last season, Bassett started out as the front-runner for her performance in the Marvel film, with much of the conversation focusing on her body of work over decades as a movie star. In the end, Jamie Lee Curtis<\/strong> won for Everything<\/em> Everywhere All at Once<\/em>.<\/p>\n Bassett has been nominated for two Oscars in her illustrious career, supporting actress for last year\u2019s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever<\/em> and best actress for her portrayal of Tina Turner<\/a><\/strong> in the 1993 biopic What\u2019s Love Got To Do With It<\/em>.<\/p>\n
